Bellevue Spa and Chiropractor Office Gutted by Blaze

The Bellevue Fire Department blocked NE 8th Street just before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night for a commercial structure fire at Bellevue East Office Center

A fire gutted a chiropractor's office and a day spa near the Crossroads area Tuesday night, according to the Bellevue Fire Department.

Β andΒ , both located at the Bellevue East Office Center, 14044 NE 8th St., Bellevue, were a total loss after the fire broke out around 8 p.m., said Bellevue Fire Department spokesman Lt. Troy Donlin.

Donlin said that the chiropractor had been moving from his office in the upper floor of the building into Eastside Oasis' space on the lower floor, when he started to detect an acrid smell in the Eastside Oasis space. After a few minutes, he saw smoke coming from the laundry room downstairs, Donlin said, and he called 9-1-1 and evacuated his wife and two young daughters, who were in his office helping with the move.

When fire fighters arrived several minutes later, the entire back entrance was engulfed in flames and the fire was affecting the integrity of the floor between the first and second floors of the building, he said.

The fire also moved up the walls and into the attic, which was above a false ceiling in the upper floor, complicating the fire fighting efforts, Donlin said.

About 10 Bellevue units, a Redmond units and command staff responded to the blaze, which took about 40 minutes to extinguish, Donlin said.

No reports of injuries, though the building is a complete loss, he said. The floor between the upper floor and lower floor partially collapsed, he said.

Fire fighters will attend to hotspots all night, he said, and investigators will enter the building to determine the fire's cause and origin on Wednesday.
