Confronted By Pistol-Wielding Truck Owner, Prowler Flees — Sammamish Police Blotter

Sammamish Police say a 31-year-old man confronted and scared off a car prowler in the early morning of May 22 as the suspect rummaged through his truck.

The suspect was inside the black Toyota Tundra parked outside a home on the 3000 block of 197th Ave. SE when the owner was awoken at 2:50 a.m. by his barking dog. The resident grabbed his pistol and confronted the man, yelling "hey, what are you doing and what's your name?" The suspect replied "I am looking for change for my truck," and walked away at a high rate of speed.

The suspect is described as 40-years-old, 5'8" tall and weighing 170 pounds. He was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans. Earlier in that morning, a car prowler with a similar physical description entered an unlocked gold Lexus GX460 on the 2500 block of E. Lake Sammamish Shore Lane SE, taking clothing and a purse containing credit cards and prescription muscle relaxants from inside. The suspect was later caught on surveillance video, seen driving a blue Ford Explorer with aftermarket rims, when he used the stolen debit card to buy $62.50 in gas at a local 7-11 at 2:20 a.m.

Homeless Woman Banned From Pine Lake QFC After Shoplifting Cupcakes
Sammamish police cited a 29-year-old homeless woman from Everett for shoplifting from the Pine Lake QFC after she was found sleeping at a table at 3:04 a.m. with a carton of cupcakes and jar of olives near the supermarket entrance. The woman told police that she was living with a boyfriend in Sammamish but they had broken up and she became homeless. The police officer checked with QFC to see if the woman purchased the cupcakes and a store manager told police that video footage showed her taking the goods, valued at $11.98, without paying. Police banned her for trespassing from the QFC for two years and released her at the Bellevue Transit Center so she could catch a bus back to Everett.

Nikon Digital Camera Found at Beaver Lake
A Skyline junior turned in a Nikon digital camera D3000 with a zoom lens to the Sammamish Police Department after he discovered the camera near the Beaver Lake Lodge near the water on a group of rocks on May 13.

Fake Vacuum Cleaner Salesman Sells Dated Goods
Residents of a home reported that a door-to-door vacuum salesman had sold her an old Electrolux vacuum under false pretenses back in February. She paid the man $850 by check. The vacuum was finally delivered in May but was actually 15 years old. Electrolux informed the couple that the salesman had not worked for the company for some time and the purchase receipt was also fraudulent.

Firefighters Take Drunken Father to Detox in Bellevue
Eastside Fire & Rescue EMTs transported a 52-year-old resident to Overlake Hospital for detox at 4:24 p.m. after he was found heavily intoxicated in his apartment on the 4300 block of Issaquah Pine Lake Road SE. A recovering alcoholic, the man was suffering a relapse and had already drank a large quantity of vodka and wine, and was unable to care for his juvenile son who was at home with him at the time. Officers assisted the man in putting on a pair of shoes because he was too intoxicated to do so on his own.

Twice Burgled, Said Man, But Nothing Taken From Home
Burglars broke into a home of a 70-year-old resident on the 3500 block of East Lake Sammamish Parkway SE while he was away for the evening, and he found the garage door open on his return. No items from inside were missing, but the man told police it was the second time his home has been burglarized this year. Police were uncertain how the burglar had entered the home, and found no fingerprints to confirm the report.

Four-Wheeling Youths Crash Jeep on E. Main Drive PSE Property
Police responded to reports of an accident at 6 p.m. on the 25000 block of E. Main Drive and discovered four Eastlake High School boys who were apparently joyriding when their green Jeep Wrangler crashed into a ditch on a large expanse of PSE property. All of the youths were banned from the property for trespassing.

Ex-Husband Gets Daughter to Turn Over Mom's Keys
The ex-husband of a homeowner living on the 2700 block of East Lake Sammamish Parkway SE borrowed his ex-wife's blue Subaru Impreza while she was away on a vacation. The daughter had a spare key to the car and let her father drive it, but the ex-wife, said as the registered owner of the car she never consented to his use of it.

Car Prowl on 217th Place
A resident's dog began barking at the front window of a home on the 1600 block of 217th Place SE at around 10:50 p.m. when the man noticed the interior light of his Chevrolet Trail Blazer was on. He discovered the front door to the truck was open, but nothing appeared to be missing from inside. The man admitted he had left the vehicle unlocked when he went inside the home.

Estranged Brother Behind 'Vulgar' Texts
The estranged brother of a 30-year-old resident living on the 1500 block of 208th Ave. NE began sending "vulgar and unwelcomed" text messages to her, which caused her to fear for her safety, suspecting he is a convicted violent felon.

Red Bull and Vodka Party in Highlands Shopping Center Parking Lot a Bad Idea
Witnesses at the Sammamish Highlands Shopping Center said two men were drinking alcohol while parked in front of the Bartell Drugs store. The 22 and 23-year-old men were confronted by a police officer, who saw them drinking Red Bull and Vodka. They complied with a police request to leave the area on foot and dump out the remaining vodka.

Stoned Sister, Brother Busted With Pot at Pine Lake Park
A 20-year-old woman and her younger 16-year-old brother were discovered smoking marijuana at 10:34 p.m. in Pine Lake Park. The youths, who appeared to be stoned, turned over a bong, glass smoking pipes, a scale and about 12 grams of marijuana. The siblings were detained on suspicion of possesion of a controlled substance for distribution until their father later identified them at the police station and took them home.
