A Washington State Patrol (WSP) press memo indicated a 25-year-old Tacoma man driving an SUV somehow got in the wrong lane, heading westbound across the 520 bridge in the eastbound lanes. He hit the other vehicle, a subcompact Mazda, at about 5:23 a.m.

Both drivers were injured and taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where the Seattle woman died. Rescue crews has to cut the SUV apart to extricate the male driver, who reportedly suffered an ankle injury.

All eastbound lanes of 520 were closed at Montlake during the rescue and investigation.

Patch does not typically name suspects unless and until they have been charged. KING5 News reported that the male driver was later arrested and is facing trial on another DUI charge from Dec. 15 of last year.

KING5 also reported that investigators are not sure where the SUV driver got on the freeway. WSP is asking for any witnesses to come forward by calling the agency at 425-401-7740.
