Eastside Fire & Rescue Urges Residents to Stay Indoors

The agency urges caution with alternate heating methods and avoiding the roads if possible until driving conditions improve.

Firefighters with have truly been challenged throughout the day with the increase in emergency responses during the power outage, and snow and ice conditions. for winter weather from Eastside Fire & Rescue.

The agency also urges residents to continue fire safety practices. In addition, the potential for carbon monoxide poisoning increases with the use of open flames: kerosene heaters, woodburning stoves, BBQs and camp stoves, generators.

Fire officials also ask that the public remain off the roads until driving conditions improve if at all possible. Due to the heavy snow and icy conditions, the potential for downed power lines and falling trees remains high.

General information:  Firefighters continue to work closely with Partner cities (Carnation, Issaquah, North Bend, and Sammamish) and other local agencies to keep roadways clear from debris and downed trees. Power remains off in many areas and Puget Sound Energy (PSE) is diligently working to restore power to these areas. Many previously closed roads are now open. Due to the current power outages, many families will be without power and heat overnight and possibly through Friday. Be sure to monitor small children, seniors, and people with disabilities for hyperthermia. If you do have a medical situation, be sure to dial 911 for emergency help. For non-emergency assistance, contact your medical professional or service agency.

The City of Issaquah has opened their Emergency Operations Center. A temporary warming shelter is also open at the Community Center next to the fire station at: 190 E. Sunset Way in Issaquah.

The City of Sammamish has set up a warming shelter at Sammamish City Hall located at: 801 228th Avenue SE in Sammamish. The warming shelter will be open until midnight tonight.
