How Remains of Missing Redmond Teen Were Identified: Timeline

Remains found along Interstate 90 in 2001 were recently identified as those of Erin MacGregor, missing since 1990.

The King County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) issued a news release Wednesday confirming that a partial skull found along I-90 in 2001 has been identified as that of Erin MacGregor, a Redmond teen who had been missing since 1990.

MacGregor was 18 when she disappeared on Sept. 19, 1990. She was last seen at her boyfriend's home, according to KCSO. Her car, a 1985 blue and silver Honda CRX, was found abandoned in Seattle's Columbia City neighborhood on Oct. 3, 1990.

Using advanced DNA technology and a liver tissue sample from MacGregor's deceased mother, experts were able to positively identify the skull in late July. The King County Medical Examiner issued a death certificate for MacGregor on July 30β€”nearly 23 years after her disappearance (see timeline above).

Police say MacGregor's case has been reclassified from that of a missing person to a suspicious death, and will likely be investigated as a homicide. Anyone with information about her death or disappearance is asked to call King County police at 206-263-2090.

"Somebody's got to know something," a KCSO detective told Q13 Fox.Β Β
