Illegal Fireworks Cause Minor Fire, Damaged Property in Sammamish

Sammamish Police responded to several fireworks-related calls over the Independence Day holiday. Fireworks are illegal in Sammamish.

Sammamish Police responded to several fireworks-related incidents over the extended July 4th holiday weekend, including a vandalism, assault and a minor residential fire.

Fireworks Start Residential Fire

Residents say unknown juveniles started a small fire with a firework inside the yard of a home on the 21600 block of NE 4th Street. A 40-year-old woman said she noticed a small two-tone green and dark green station wagon idling in the street at around 6:33 p.m. and heard someone say "go, go, go" when the teen ran and the firework exploded in the grass. Another resident grabbed a garden hose and immediately extinguished the fire. Police found no remnant of the firework and a small scorch mark on the grass.

Fireworks Confiscated From Four Teens on 266th Way SE

Police confiscated a box of "Navy Seal Cracker" fireworks from four 15-year-old boys from Redmond, Woodinville, Fall City and Sammamish. A patrol officer heard the firework and confronted the teens near the intersection of SE Belvedere and 266th Way SE at 4:40 p.m. Instead of imposing a $1,000 fine, they were let off with a warning. Another boy in a separate incident was warned minutes earlier in the same location after police also confiscated a large bag of fireworks he purchased on the Snoqulmie Tribe Reservation.

Firework-Lobbing Teens Hit Man With Car Side Mirror
A 17-year-old Snoqualmie resident is suspected of assaulting a 51-year-old resident with the side mirror of his car at 11:45 p.m. after he was confronted for throwing fireworks from his vehicle. The teenager, his Issaquah girlfriend and a third passenger sped off after the man flagged down the vehicle on the 21600 block of SE 35th Street. The teen was stopped several months ago in Snoqualmie for a suspected DUI. The victim later positively identified the girlfriend from her online Facebook account.

Garbage Lid 'Blown to Pieces'

Residents on the 23900 block of SE 25th Court reported a garbage can lid was blown off from an explosion at around 11 p.m., completely destroying the lid and blowing pieces of it across the street. Fireworks were suspected as the cause, but no fireworks debris could be found. One of the residents reported seeing several young men inside a black BMW and a second car pulled off the roadway near the victim's house when the explosion occurred.
