Issaquah, Sammamish Post Low Crime Rates in 2012, Says FBI

The 2012 FBI's Uniform Crime Reports released this week indicate very low levels of crime in Sammamish and Issaquah.

Issaquah and Sammamish continue to enjoy low to extremely low crime rates, according to data released this week by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Issaquah police reported 18 violent crimes in 2012. That’s a decrease from the 26 violent crimes reported in 2011. But property crimes increased slightly over the same period, up to 752 in 2012 from 735 in 2011. In 2012, Issaquah had a violent crime rate of 0.57 known offenses per 1,000 residents and a property crime rate of 24 known offenses per 1,000 people.

Sammamish police reported 16 violent crimes in 2012, the same number as 2011. Property crimes decreased slightly over the same period, down from 356 in 2011 to 343 in 2012. In 2012, Sammamish had a violent crime rate of 0.34 known offenses per 1,000 residents and a property crime rate of 7.3 known offenses per 1,000 people — one of the top-10 lowest crime rates in the state of Washington.

The numbers were released this week by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which reported a nationwide increase of violent crimes and a decrease of property crimes after compiling crime data from 18,000 jurisdictions in 50 states.

The FBI's Uniform Crime Reports also included the number of police officers in the nation’s police departments. Issaquah has one sworn officer for every 1,000 residents, while Sammamish, which is a contract city with the King County Sheriff's Department, has 0.5 sworn officers for every 1,000 residents.
