Issaquah School District Issues Safety Reminder After Man Talks to Issaquah Valley Students

The incident, in which a man drove by girls, occurred Monday during recess. The Issaquah police documented the case.

Issaquah School District officials issued a reminder to parents and students late Monday about campus safety after two girls reported that a man drove by in a car at Issaquah Valley Elementary and yelled something to the extent of: “Hey, girls, why don’t you come with us?”

Issaquah police dispatched an officer, who took a report of the incident, which occurred Monday during recess. Officials said the man, who is believed to be in his 20s, has shaggy brown hair. He was driving a red car.

After the man yelled at the students, he turned at the next street and drove away, district officials said in an email to parents and community members.

The  serves the southern portion of Sammamish. District officials encouraged parents in Issaquah to contact the Issaquah Police Department should any suspicious incident such as this occur.

District officials also issued these reminders for families regarding student safety:

  • Never talk to a stranger
  • Never let a stranger get too close, whether the stranger is in a car or walking
  • Never tell a stranger any personal information, such as your name, age, or address
  • Always try to walk in pairs with a friend or an adult
  • Stick to safe, well-lit paths when walking
  • Do not obstruct your hearing with iPods or portable music players when walking or waiting outside
  • If a stranger tries to grab you, yell as loudly as you can and run away
  • Always alert an adult immediately if you are approached by a suspicious person
