Police Blotter: In Three Burglaries Combined $30,000 in Jewelry Stolen

The following information was supplied by the Sammamish Police Department for Dec. 23-30. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

In three separate burglaries reported last week, a combined $32,650 in jewelry was reported stolen from Sammamish residences. One of the cases was a break-in.

Friday, Dec. 23

Burglary: A family living on East Beaver Lake Drive Southeast contacted police after they returned home from a trip to Hawaii and found their house ransacked. Two laptop computers, a BB gun and various items were stolen. Fingerprints were taken at the scene.

Larceny: A man living on Southeast 23rd Street contacted police contacted police after nearly $1,500 in tools were stolen from a toolbox in the bed of his truck and a tool tote outside his garage.

DUI: Police pulled over a 19-year-old Bellevue man after he was spotted speeding (70 mph in a 40 mph zone) near Southeast 16th Street and 228th Avenue Southeast. When police contacted the driver they smelled marijuana and asked him why he was speeding. The driver said, “Because it was fun.” Police believed he was under the influence of marijuana and unable to operate the vehicle. He was taken into custody and transported to Snoqualmie Hospital for a blood draw.

Larceny: A woman living on Southeast 10th Court contacted police after her unlocked car was entered and a portable GPS unit was stolen.

Sunday, Dec. 25

Burglary: Police were dispatched to a home on 196th Avenue Southeast after a couple returned home from visiting a sick relative and found that they had been burglarized. A window had been broken near the front door and the door was standing open. $300 in cash and $10,000 in jewelry was stolen.

Assault: Police arrested a 37-year-old Sammamish man for assault after he punched his wife in the face during an argument. The pair had been fighting when the wife tried to hide in the bathroom and the husband struck her in the face. He was transported to Issaquah Jail.

Monday, Dec. 26

Controlled Substance: Police spotted a vehicle parked at Samantha Smith Elementary late at night and found a group of three 17-year-olds they suspected of smoking marijuana. When police approached the vehicle they smelled marijuana and, when prompted, the teens turned over a jar with a small amount of marijuana and a glass smoking pipe. The teens were later released to their parents.

Larceny: A woman living on 231st Lane Southeast contacted police to report the theft of over $10,000 in jewelry and other items from her home over a period of weeks. The woman stated that she thought her caregiver was stealing the items.

Tuesday, Dec. 27

Fraud: A man living on 204th place Northeast contacted police after he discovered several fraudulent charges on his bank account for a total of $921.59. A pending charge of $361.54 was also found, which was for an item that was apparently to be shipped to a Washington D.C. address.

Attempted Burglary: A man living on Northeast 6th Street contacted police after his daughter alerted him that someone was parked outside a former neighbor’s home down the street. The man investigated and found an SUV with a small trailer parked at the home, and two strange men. The men said they thought the home was abandoned and the items in the garage were free. He told them they couldn’t be there and they left. Nothing appeared to be stolen.

Thursday, Dec. 29

Larceny: A woman living on 203rd Avenue Southeast contacted police after she noticed that several pieces of jewelry valued at $12,650 had gone missing. The woman suspects an electrician or handy man that had recently been at her home may have stolen the jewelry.

Friday, Dec. 30

DUI: Police arrested a 19-year-old Sammamish woman for suspicion of drunk driving after she and a group of teens were seen in a vehicle stopped in the middle of the street outside Skyline High School. When police contacted they driver they smelled intoxicants and took her into custody. She later provided a Breathalyzer sample of .184. She was transported to King County Jail.
