Police Blotter: Several Instances of Credit Card Fraud Reported

The following incidents are from Sammamish Police Department reports for Feb. 16-23. An arrest does not indicate a conviction

Thursday, Feb. 16

Fraud: A 21-year-old woman living on the 4300 block of Issaquah Pine Lake Road SE reported that she was alerted through an email account that someone had applied for credit cards to Apple/Barclay and Wal-Mart in her name. She contacted the retailers and told them the applications were fraudulent, then changed the settings on her account.

Fraud: A woman reported to police that someone had used her USAA MasterCard number to make online purchases totaling more than 840 dollars. She had possession of the card at all times. She called USAA and they canceled the card and refunded the charges.

Vandalism: A resident reported that there was graffiti on a fence lining a public walking path between two neighborhoods, near the 100 block of 241st Place SE. Police said the images appeared to be more juvenile, not gang-related.

Saturday, Feb. 18

Larceny: A resident of the 1100 block of 222 Place NE reported to police that his unlocked truck was rifled through overnight and the registration and insurance card were stolen.

Obstructing an Officer: Police have issued a citation for a 20-year-old Seattle woman for obstructing an officer after she lied about her name. The officer pulled over a Saturn sedan north of the roundabout at 32nd Street on Issaquah-Pine Lake Road SE because its tabs were expired. The woman gave the officer a false name and date of birth, which the officer later confirmed after checking booking photos from the Issaquah Jail. The driver had a misdemeanor warrant out for theft in Shoreline.

DUI:  A 19-year old Sammamish man was arrested for DUI after being stopped for speeding and swerving between two lanes on 228th Ave SE around 2:40 a.m. Feb. 18. The officer stopped the car at the Safeway Parking lot, and smelled not only alcohol but a strong odor of unsmoked marijuana in the vehicle. The vehicle was impounded and brought to the Sammamish Police Department pending a warrant to search the vehicle. The man registered a blood alcohol level of .146/.144.

Attempted Suicide: Police were dispatched to the 21000 block of SE 22nd Street, along with medical aid, to respond to an attempted suicide. The person, a 38-year-old Sammamish woman, has a history with the police department, and in this case had apparently consumed alcohol and prescription Lithium. When police arrived at the scene, her boyfriend stated that the woman had been “in a rampage” for the last week. She called her brother, and apparently passed while out on the phone. Police found two empty bottles of Lithium in a gun safe at the home, which the boyfriend said he had hid, but it was not clear at the time if the woman had consumed the contents of those bottles. She was transported to Swedish Issaquah by MEDIC 1.

Unauthorized Fireworks: A man reported that several juveniles had been lighting off fireworks outside his home at 24000 block of SE 20th Ct and directing them at his vehicle. The victim followed the car until it stopped on Beaver Lake Drive, and confiscated the fireworks from the juveniles.

Sunday, Feb. 19

Trespassing: A resident of the 19000 block of NE 39th Street reported to police that people have been driving onto property south of his home, onto parcels which are currently unoccupied. Police found a smoldering bonfire and beer cans strewn about. No one was there at the time, but police may monitor the site for underage drinking.

Monday, Feb. 20

Fourth Degree Assault: Police were called to a home on the 5100 block of 189th Ave NE. A 69-year-old man allegedly assaulted his wife of 15 years. The woman, aged 44, called police to report that she was sleeping at the family home, recovering from transplant surgery, when her husband grabbed and started shaking her, demanding to know where his laptop computer was, though she said she didn’t know. In the argument, her finger was injured. The victim appeared to police to be under the influence of alcohol and she reported to police she had taken a sleeping pill. The husband was taken into custody and booked into the Issaquah jail.

Tuesday, Feb. 21

Vandalism: The Hampton Woods HOA reported that the community mailbox on NE 21st Way was dislodged from the cement foundation and turned on its side. It did not appear that any individual mailboxes had been broken into.

Fraud: a Sammamish woman received by mail a PIN number for a Goodyear credit car through Citibank that she didn’t apply for. Unknown persons apparently were able to get access to her social security number, name and address.

Wednesday, Feb. 22

Stolen license plates: A resident on the 2000 block of 222nd Avenue reported to police that his new front license plate was stolen sometime between Jan 1 and Feb. 22, but he wasn’t sure where the car was when the theft occurred

Thursday, Feb. 23

Accident/Injured Animal: Police were called to the scene of a car/deer collision at the intersection of NE 19th street and 244th Ave, where a woman had struck a deer in her 2001 GMC Yukon. The truck suffered minor damage, and the deer alive but was injured in the roadway. The officer on the scene attempted to contact fish and wildlife, and when he got no response, his commanding officer gave him approval to shoot the deer with his service weapon. The deer died from the single gunshot and was removed from the road.
