QUESTION: Will You Send Your Sammamish-Issaquah Kids to School Friday?

Reports indicate that absences in the Issaquah School District jumped as much as 70 percent Thursday, Sept. 21, due to a threat of violence against Skyline. Will your kids get a three-day weekend because of the threat to Skyline?

The Issaquah Press reported this evening that absences increased as much as 70 percent of the Issaquah School District student body was absent today, in the face of anonymous Internet threats that put police in high gear and shuttered Skyline High School for the day.

Sammamish-Issaquah Patch Facebook users noted that many Eastlake High School students, in the neighboring Lake Washington School District, opted to stay home to, due to the threats.

For Friday, Sept. 22, Eastside Catholic School has canceled classes to go over its security on school grounds.

Meanwhile, though the police are taking the threat seriously, there are some indications that it may not be an imminent threat.

What will your students be doing tomorrow? Will they be going to school? Why or why not?

One of our Facebook fans, Heather, said her son will be taking Friday off: " My son is a football player and is traumatized by this ordeal. We have decided he needs a day," she said.

Here's another Facebook comment; what is your family going to do?: "We have just moved to the area from Louisiana. I have homeschooled for years, so we had planned to do that here, too, although I did give my teenage daughters the option to go to public school at Skyline. They are traumatized even NOT going and are glad they decided to keep homeschooling!"

Another Facebook fan says : " Mine aren't going, I'd like to know what precautions exactly are in place for Borg school and the game tomorrow night. I think they've been a little to vague for me to feel 100%."

From Kathie: " Mine are going Jeanne....I believe that IJH & EHS are safe under the protection of Sammamish finest Officers and Principals/Staff."

My daughter is going to Skyline today. I don't believe that there is imminent danger and the police will be there as well. My daughter is choosing to go. Just because we knew about this threat ahead of time doesn't mean it's the only one. We can't live in fear.

My children go to one of the elementary schools in Sammamish and attended school yesterday and today. I felt 100% confident there was/is no threat to them. I know a lot of their school mates were absent. I think keeping the elementary kids home is taking it a bit too far. However, I think the principal should have addressed this situation with them (it was not) and my kids came home a little fearful of the many different stories they heard "through the grapevine", which is very disappointing.

My son is going to Skyline today. It was his choice and he says he is not worried. We feel today is probably the safest day to go, and it's important to put trust in the school & police communities until this is resolved. My middle schooler also went to school yesterday & today, & the staff communicated to the students brilliantly!

Thanks for your comments, Joanna and Noelle. I hope they had a good day today, and I agree Joanna, something in the rumour mills is definitely best addressed frankly by the adults.
