Two suspects believed to be responsible for 48 car prowls and burglaries in the Puget Sound area are now in custody, and police are working to identify victims and return stolen property recovered in the case.
Police say the two suspects, a 31-year-old Bothell man and 36-year-old Bothell woman, targeted movie theaters and other public places, where they broke into vehicles, stole registration info, and then proceeded to burglarize the owners' empty homes.
spokesman Jim Bove said the pair is responsible for four such cases in Redmond—two at the , one at , one at and one at . (.)
In total, police said, the suspects are tied to at least 27 residential burglaries, four commercial burglaries, 17 vehicle prowls, four attempted burglaries, eight stolen vehicles and one fraud case in Redmond, Brier, Edmonds, Everett, Kirkland, Lynnwood, Medina, Mountlake Terrace, Mount Vernon, Mukilteo, Shoreline, Snohomish, Mill Creek, Bellevue and Woodinville. warned of such a pattern reemerging in the area. There has been at least one such case in Sammamish, and law enforcement officials are looking into whether that crime is connected with the other cases.
"Thousands and thousands" of stolen items have been recovered, including jewelry, electronics, tools, rifles, sports memorabilia, and even a sink.
Redmond Police were able to apprehend the suspects on Aug. 1 when they went to arrest the female suspect on another charge and caught up with the male suspect, who fled. Redmond Police K9 unit Vader tracked and located the man a short time later.
Charging documents have not yet been filed in the case, and Redmond Police have not released the names of the suspects.
