are investigating a hit-and-run incident that sent a 22-year-old pedestrian to the hospital with head and knee injuries Monday morning.

A passerby called 911 just before 6 a.m. after seeing the man, whom police have not yet identified, in the roadway near the intersection of Northeast 85th Street and 164th Avenue Northeast, according to a department news release.

Police spokesman Jim Bove said the man was in and out of conscioussness and unable to provide information when medics arrived, adding police aren't sure how long he was in the roadway. The man was taken to Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland, and Bove said police are heading there this morning to try to interview him.

Hit-and-run collisions involving pedestrians or bicyclists are relatively rare in Redmond, Bove said.

“It doesn’t happen very often. Normally if (drivers) hit somebody or something, they’re gonna stop,” he said.

Police are asking anyone with any information on the incident to call 425-556-2500.
