Sammamish Police Blotter: $27K in Jewelry Missing and Social Security Cards, IDs, $20K in Jewelry Snatched

Saturday, Sept. 24

Liquor/Tobacco Violations: Police were dispatched to  after a man reported seeing a group of teenage boys carrying a limp or possibly intoxicated teenage girl into the park. When police checked the park, they caught up with three boys running from the woods. The boys, ages 15 to 16, said that a girl was freaking out back on the trail. Police soon found another male holding a female who was convulsing. The male said that she’d had a Four Loko, an alcoholic beverage, and XTC, an energy drink. He also said that she was on prescription anti-depression medication. The male said that they had started drinking 24-ounce Four Lokos at about 1 p.m. and that they’d had about one and a half.

Eastside Fire & Rescue transported the 17-year-old girl to Issaquah Swedish Hospital. Later, when the girl was lucid, police were able to speak with her. She admitted to drinking about one and a third of a Four Loko but said that she’d had nothing else besides her medication. The juveniles were later released.

Sunday, Sept. 25

Burglary: Police and the store manager for responded to an alarm on Saturday night and found an unsecured back door but nothing else out of the ordinary. The next morning the manager discovered that cash deposits of $400 were missing from the safe in the office. Fingerprints were taken at the scene.

Burglary: A real estate agent contacted police after a home for sale on East Lake Sammamish Drive South was broken into and several pieces of furniture and wall accessories were stolen.

Auto Theft: A man living on Northeast 8th Street contacted police after his Yamaha scooter was stolen from the driveway beside his residence. The man said that the scooter had been locked up but that a few people could lift it up and load it into a truck. The man’s parents were at home at the time but did not see or hear anything unusual. The scooter is described as black with red flame decals.

Suspicious Circumstances: A woman living on 211th Place Southeast contacted police after she discovered that a bag containing $27,000 worth of jewelry that her in-laws had given her was missing. The woman said that her marriage was currently strained and that her husband was in Canada with his parents. She suspected that he might have taken the jewelry. Police informed the woman that Washington is a community property state and that even if he had the jewelry it wasn’t a crime. Police advised that the woman should speak with her husband about the jewelry before taking the matter further.

Monday, Sept. 26

Burglary: A man living on 277th Avenue Southeast contacted police after discovering that items had been stolen from two unlocked vehicles in an open garage. An iPod was stolen from one of the vehicles while sunglasses, a valet key, a wheel lock, the registration and the owner’s manual were stolen from the second.

Earlier that evening a man reported seeing a suspicious man in his 20s meandering about the neighborhood. After the suspicious man was confronted he drove off in a burgundy Dodge Charger.

Hit and Run: A man contacted police after a large pickup truck sideswiped his vehicle on Northeast Inglewood Hill Road. The man chased after the truck after it did not stop and was able to get the license plate number.

Tuesday, Sept. 27

Auto Theft: While on patrol of the South Sammamish Park-and-Ride, police came upon a woman looking for her car. She said that the car had been legally parked and locked and was missing when she returned from work. The woman said that she was behind one payment on the car but confirmed that it had not been repossessed.

Wednesday, Sept. 28

Burglary: A woman living on 246th Place Northeast contacted police after discovering that her house had been broken into while she was out running errands. The woman had come home and found glass broken out of a back door and her bedroom ransacked. Foreign currency, U.S. currency, passports, Social Security cards and jewelry valued at more than $20,000 were stolen. Fingerprints were taken at the scene.

Thursday, Sept. 29

Vandalism: A woman living on 211th Avenue Northeast contacted police after the vehicle that her son drives was vandalized. The woman directed the police to speak with her son and he showed them where the word “RAPIST” had been scratched into the paint, 1-inch high and 3 inches across, just below the driver’s side window. The son said that the vehicle had been parked at from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. but he hadn’t noticed the damage until later. The son said he had no idea why anyone would have vandalized the vehicle.

Friday, Sept. 30

Hit and Run: Police were dispatched to a hit-and-run incident after a woman reported that a black Honda Civic had raced up a hill near the , made a wide right turn and hit her car as she drove in the opposite lane. Her car sustained damage to the driver’s side fender, headlight and turn signal assembly. The woman said that the other car seemed to have sustained more damage as both of its airbags deployed.

After the accident, the driver of the Honda and a friend got out of the car and inspected the damage. When the woman asked for his insurance information, the driver went back to his car and fumbled with paperwork for a while. His friend threw the Honda’s front bumper into the backseat and then they drove off down the hill. The woman chased after the Honda and got its license plate number.

The woman described the driver as being between 17- and 18-years-old, and about 5 feet 10 inches. Based on the plate number, police determined that the Honda was registered in Maple Valley.

Larceny: An area supervisor for contacted police after learning that several hundred dollars was missing from the most recent cash deposit. The supervisor said that in the past week three managers at the Plateau location had been fired. All of them still had keys to the store and codes for the alarm system and safe. The deposit was $512.06 short.
