Sammamish police make arrests in a burglary case, encounter a suspicious man and bust a street racer.

Thursday, March 31

Reckless driving: Sammamish police arrested a 20-year-old man for reckless driving after he was spotted racing with a second vehicle near Southeast 32nd Street and the Issaquah-Pine Lake Road.

Saturday, April 2

Moving violations: Police encountered a suspicious driver early on Saturday morning and followed him while he proceeded to drive erratically and failed to signal at a turn. Suspecting that the driver was trying to evade them, police followed him until he abruptly came to a stop and left his car, then began walking in heavy rain. Police then stopped the driver and questioned him. The driver was rude and uncooperative, saying that he knew his rights. Police discovered a six-pack of beer in the car and arrested the driver for suspicion of DUI. He eventually consented to a breath test and blew a 0.00. Police cited the driver for failing to signal.

Sunday, April 3

Auto theft: Residents on 232nd Place Northeast contacted police after discovering that their 2009 Subaru Forrester was stolen. During the night, bright lights shining into the home and the sound of a vehicle driving away quickly had awaked the female resident. She thought nothing of it and returned to sleep. The next afternoon she discovered that her car was gone and contacted police.

Juvenile disturbance: Police were dispatched to a residence on Southeast 35th Place after a homeowner reported that he had caught three teen boys trying to enter his home and was currently chasing them through neighborhood property. Police questioned the teens, ages 14, 14, and 15, about why they had been running through yards. The teens initially claimed to only be out walking, but later admitted that they were out to toilet paper houses and ring doorbells.

Tuesday, April 5

Disturbance: Police were dispatched after a group of men were reported for causing a disturbance near 240th Way Southeast. The men claimed to be going door to door selling magazines but had reportedly upset several local residents.

Wednesday, April 6

Burglary: Police were dispatched to a residence on 233 Avenue Northeast after the homeowners returned home and discovered that a back glass door leading to the deck was open. Dirty footprints leading to the upstairs were also found inside. Various pieces of jewelry were taken, as were two bottles of wine and an oxycontin prescription. Police surmised that entry had been obtained through a 2-foot by 2-foot window beside the glass door. Fingerprints were taken at the scene.

A subsequent investigation lead to two arrests and the recovery of some of the missing property. Two more suspects were also identified.

Hit and run: Sammamish police impounded a 2003 Dodge Neon after it was found abandoned in a small ravine after the driver left the road and hit a tree. The driver left the scene and failed to report the accident.

Driving while license revoked: Sammamish police arrested a 35-year-old man for driving without a license after running a routine check on a vehicle during patrol.

Thursday, April 7

Marijuana possession: Police arrested an 18-year-old man for possession of marijuana and illegally possessing alcohol after the car he was driving was pulled over in the 23100 block of Northeast 8th Street. Police first noticed the car because a license plate frame was obscuring the last digit of the license number. When police pulled the vehicle over and approached the driver there was an immediate marijuana odor. The driver consented to a field sobriety test and a vehicle search. Police found two marijuana buds in a plastic container and a case of beer in the trunk. The driver was later released at the scene.

Fourth Degree Assault: Police were dispatched to the  on 228th Avenue Southeast after two men got into an altercation following a road-rage incident. Police questioned the men, who then left without further incident.

Friday, April 8

DUI: Sammamish police arrested a 39-year-old man for driving under the influence after he was stopped in the 2800 block of Eastlake Sammamish Parkway for speeding and crossing over the center line. The man failed field sobriety tests and blew a .161 on the Breathalyzer.

Suspicious person: An anonymous woman contacted police and reported seeing a beat-up silver Ford Mustang driving around with two men inside. They appeared to be trying to break into locked mailboxes. Police eventually spotted the vehicle and questioned the driver, who said they were passing out business cards and flyers. Police informed the pair that the needed a peddler’s license to pass out the materials and released them with a warning.

Saturday, April 9

Burglary: Police were dispatched to a residence on Northeast 38th Street after the homeowner noticed that several items of expensive fly-fishing gear were missing from his garage. The owner reported that he could have left the garage open. No fingerprints were recovered at the scene. The fishing gear was valued at almost $7,500.

Suspicious circumstances: Police were dispatched to the Safeway on 228th Avenue after a woman reported that several men were attempting to steal the wheels off of a car. Police questioned the men and released them due to insufficient evidence.

Sunday, April 10

Violation of court orders: Sammamish police arrested a man for violating a restraining order after his ex-wife reported that he had shown up at their son’s lacrosse practice at .
