Sammamish Police Blotter: Car Wash Rage on National Night Out

Tuesday, Aug.  7

Trouble at the car wash: At National Night out, a Sammamish resident approached an officer and said he wanted to report something, going on to describe how another vehicle had just blocked him several times at the Brown Bear Car Wash, threatened to assault him, and admitting that he had “pushed” the other vehicle, a 2000 ford ranger, with his grand Cherokee. Meanwhile, the other driver, who was still at the car wash, called police to report a hit and run.

The other party said when he noticed his car partially blocking the pumps, he moved it, but the other driver was angry and swore at him. He said while he was waiting for a break in traffic to egress from the car wash area, the other car approached the passenger side of his car and bumped it slightly. He said he was shocked at this, but then a few seconds later, it backed away, accelerated, and bumped his car much harder, leaving a dent. Officers took pictures of the damage, and police are referring the case for possible hit and run and reckless driving charges.

Thursday, Aug. 9

Hit and run driver caught: a 44-year-old Renton woman was caught hiding in the bushes near 33000 E. Lake Sammamish Parkway NE after a collision with an Issaquah Driver pulling out of 7-11. The driver of the Buick got out of the car and talked with the driver of the truck. He told her he thought they should call the police, and he went back to get his insurance information, assuming she was doing the same, but she drove off instead. When police caught up to the car, the woman led them on a wild-goose chase, telling them she had seen a heavyset male run off; then she hid in the bushes. When police returned with confirmation that she in fact was the driver, she told them she didn’t have insurance on her car and was scared so she left the scene of the accident.

Monday, Aug. 13

Burglary: A home on the 22000 block of E. Lake Sammamish Parkway was burglarized while the resident of one of two duplexes on the property was down at the lake. One of her neighbors called her to tell her it appeared her home had been burglarized. The burglar apparently entered through a kitchen window by removing an air conditioner from the window, and stole about $15,600 worth of jewelry, a camera, a MacBook pro laptop, monitor, a television and Xbox 360 and Kinect consoles, plus the victim’s visa and passport. The bathroom had also been ransacked, suggesting the perpetrator was searching for prescription medications. While police were on the scene, the woman told them she had just not iced that the sliding glass door to one of her neighbor’s homes (who were away on vacation) was open, and police could see that there was a television and computer monitor were missing.

Woman falls from third story balcony during altercation with mother: A 27-year-old woman fell from a third story balcony at her apartment at the Madison Apartment complex as her mother attempted to keep her from leaving, but when officers first arrived, her mother told them the young woman had seizures. The woman was transported to Overlake Hospital for treatment.

Tuesday, Aug 14

Fraud: A Sammamish woman reported that someone had made an unauthorized use of her debit card number to order a $60 Zippo lighter. She said it’s a debit card she rarely uses, but she had used it the day before at the Japan Ging restaurant in Issaquah.

Vandalism: An 18-year old high school student man heard his neighbors, classmates calling out obscenities while playing video games, including racially insensitive remarks while playing Call of Duty and Gears of War, and came over to their driveway, punching their father’s car. The young man said he had become enraged when he heard the boys yelling things about “expletive Iran terrorists” as he himself is of Middle Eastern descent.

Wednesday, Aug. 15

DUI: A 32-year-old Bellevue woman was arrested for suspicion of DUI after police clocked her speeding at the 4400 block of Issaquah-Pine Lake Road about 1:45 a.m., and then when the officer followed her, he was surprised to see that the driver had come to a complete stop in the middle of the intersection at SE 47th Way. She failed several field sobriety tests, but several times failed to complete a Breathalyzer test, claiming she had athletic asthma and anxiety, but refusing any medical help and breathing normally except during the BAC portion of the test. She was arrested and her car impounded.

Saturday, Aug. 18

Car prowl: An off-duty Sammamish police officer saw a car, parked off the E. Lake Sammamish Parkway had a broken rear driver side window, but couldn’t find the victim. She returned a couple of hours later and called police when she found the damage. Her orange Timbuk2 messenger bag was stolen, containing a company laptop, her own external hard drive, and personal financial papers, worth a total of about $2400.

Burglary: A resident of the 24000 block of 231 Place NE reported to police that his house was broken into while he was out of town. He said he was sure that everything was locked when he left, and police found evidence that a sliding glass door was pried open. A 56-inch Bravura flat screen TV was stolen, and a new pair of tennis shoes that was to be delivered from UPS, and the sliding door was damaged. The total loss is about $2,700. The police did collect latent fingerprints.

Fake ID: A 20-year-old Bellevue man was arrested for possession of an illegal ID card and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor after police broke up an underage drinking party at about 1 a.m. on the 28000 block of 220 Place NE. The Bellevue man was discovered at the party location in the driveway of a home, urinating on the neighbor’s driveway. He was quite apparently intoxicated according to police, and when police ran the name on the Washington Driver’s License, it came back “no record”, which according to police was a very good fake id, and included the Washington hologram featured on actual licenses, and was exactly the same as his actual ID except for the date of birth. Later, when the officer was transporting the young man home, he vomited in the police car, and the officer was concerned that he had been so intoxicated he might not remember what happened the next day.

Trailer stolen: A property owner at the 36000 block of 212 Place SE reported that his rear dump PJ trailer had been stolen. The trailer requires a ¾ ton truck or larger to pull it, and uses an 8-pronged electric connection.

Burglary: A resident of 19900 SE 24 Way reported that someone had entered his home, which is being remodeled, and stole hiking and camping gear and tools worth a total of about $2,360 while he was away from the home one night. There is not a garage door installed yet in the remodel, and a wall is cut away in the garage. All of the items stolen were outside or in the garage area.
