Sammamish Police Blotter: Vigilant Neighbor Interrupts Residential Burglary

The following information was supplied by the Sammamish Police Department for Dec. 15-23. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

A man interrupted the burglary of his neighbor's house Dec. 23. Police were dispatched to the home on Northeast 31st Way after a man heard his neighbor’s alarms go off and saw a suspicious person walk from the rear of the house, cross the yard and enter a Red Dodge Durango. The man then checked and found the rear patio door open. When the homeowners arrived they discovered that a laptop computer was missing. Police were provided with a partial plate number for the Durango.

Thursday, Dec. 15

Physical Control of a Vehicle While Under the Influence: Three 19-year-olds, one from Bellingham and two from Redmond, were arrested after police followed them to a residence on Northeast 10th Place and found that they had all been drinking. Police first noticed their car driving erratically and followed them until the vehicle pulled into a driveway. When police approached the vehicle they found three males inside and smelled intoxicants. The three males provided breath samples and were later released.

Friday, Dec. 16

DUI: Police arrested a 20-year-old Sammamish man for suspicion of drunk driving after he was pulled over for speeding (75 mph in a 30 mph zone) near Northeast 8th Street and 244th Avenue Northeast. Police initially spotted the vehicle going through a roundabout at high speed and followed. When they contacted the driver police smelled intoxicants. The driver denied drinking but did say that he had been at a party earlier. He volunteered for a Breathalyzer test and blew a .129. The man was arrested and later released after a friend picked him up. An open can of malt liquor was found in the car.

Sunday, Dec. 18

Burglary: A woman living on West Beaver Lake Drive Southeast contacted police after she found her screen door propped open and front door smashed in. Nothing was missing from the home. A neighbor reported seeing a Hyundai Tucson blocking the mailboxes earlier in the day.

Monday, Dec. 19

Driving While License Revoked: Police arrested a 23-year-old Everett man after he was pulled over for driving with expired tabs near Northeast 8th Street and 242nd Avenue. A computer check revealed that he had a suspended license as well. The man was arrested and later released and driven home by a friend.

Burglary: A couple living on Sahalee Drive West contacted police after they discovered that their home had been burglarized. Binoculars, several pieces of jewelry, and a bag of quarters estimated to be worth $500 were stolen. The couple believes the suspects entered through a back door in the garage. A set of golf clubs normally propped against the door were fund tipped over.

Tuesday, Dec. 20

Driving While License Revoked: Police arrested a 37-year-old Seattle man for driving with a suspended license after he was pulled over near Northeast 12th Street and 228th Avenue Northeast. The man told police that he believed he had paid off his tickets and could drive again, but police found that he had only paid $142 and still had a balance of nearly $1,400. The man was later released at the scene.

Burglary: A man living on 240 Avenue Northeast contacted police after he returned home in the afternoon and discovered that his home had been burglarized. A DVD player, a 42-inch flat screen TV and a pair of jewelry boxes were stolen. The man believes that the suspects entered through a rear garage door that doesn’t latch properly. A shoe print was taken from the back yard.

Burglary: A woman living on 206th Place Northeast contacted police after she discovered items missing from her vehicle. She had stopped at home briefly, parked her car in the garage and left the garage door open because she was planning on leaving again shortly. While the car was parked in the garage someone entered the vehicle and stole several books, a camping stove, maps, sunglasses, a wallet, $20 in cash, an insurance card and the vehicle’s registration.

Violation of Court Orders: Police arrested a 24-year-old Carnation man after he sent his ex-girlfriend threatening and accusatory text messages in violation of a court order. The man had accused his ex-girlfriend of having sexual relations with another man and had left her several angry text messages and called her several times late at night/early in the morning.

Reckless Driving: Police arrested a 24-year-old Snoqualmie man for reckless driving after he was spotted crossing a double yellow and passing two cars on the 800 Block of East Lake Sammamish Parkway. Police pursued the vehicle and soon found it off the side of the road. The driver had locked up his brakes and slid off the road in wet conditions, going into a ditch and hitting a tree. The driver was uninjured, but his female passenger complained of head and back pain and was transported to Swedish/Issaquah hospital. The driver said he had been driving dangerously because he was late for work.
