Monday, Oct. 17

Burglary: A woman living on 239th Avenue Southeast contacted police after discovering that her home had been broken into and several items, including handguns and rifles, had been stolen.

The woman first noticed that something was wrong when the door leading from the garage to the home was standing open. Upon entering the home she discovered that a gun safe that had been left unlatched was open and a .22 caliber handgun was missing, along with a $17,000 gold ring that had been secured in a lock box in the safe.

Searching the house further, the woman discovered that two .22 caliber rifles had been taken from the upstairs bedroom closet, while a 9 mm handgun was missing from a nightstand drawer. A Rolex watch was also missing from the master bathroom. A digital camera, digital camcorder and desktop computer were also stolen, and financial records had been searched through.

The homeowner suspects that someone entered the garage through a dog door then forced their way in through the man door leading into the house. The missing items are valued at approximately $35,000.
