Sammamish Police Blotter: Items Worth Thousands Stolen From Garage, Skyline Student Arrested in Reckless Driving Case, and Stolen Car Crashes Into Hydrant

The following information was supplied by the Sammamish Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Saturday, Oct. 1

Violation of Court Orders: Police arrested a 48-year-old Sammamish woman on suspicion of violating a no-contact order after she showed up drunk at her husband’s home on Northeast 5th Place. She was transported to Issaquah Jail.

Sunday, Oct. 2

Fourth-Degree Assault: Sammamish Police arrested a 36-year-old man living on Southeast 10th Place on suspicion of assault after he got into a fight with his wife. The wife initially approached a deputy while he was parked outside and said that she and her husband had been fighting. The woman had scratch marks on her face and was crying. She said that she didn’t want to charge her husband but police said they had no choice, given domestic violence laws. The man was taken into custody and transported to Issaquah Jail.

Auto Theft: Police recovered a stolen vehicle after it was found abandoned on Southeast 19th Street following a collision with a fire hydrant and its protective bollards. It appeared that the driver lost control of the vehicle in a corner, veered into an embankment, struck a bollard and knocked it partially over, tore the hydrant from the ground and then impaled the car on top of a second bollard, 2 feet off the ground. No driver or occupants were located.

Monday, Oct. 3

Larceny: A man living on 235th Place Northeast contacted police after noticing that his iPad 2 and charger were missing from his home. There didn’t appear to be any signs of forced entry. The man said that housekeepers and a nanny have access to the home but he doesn’t suspect any of them.

Tuesday, Oct. 4

Reckless Driving: Police arrested a 16-year-old student after he was spotted allegedly speeding and driving recklessly near Southeast Ninth Street and Windsor Boulevard. Police had received several complaints of cars speeding up and down Windsor before and after school hours and were monitoring the area when the 16-year-old made an especially wide, fast turn in his BMW and accelerated toward a deputy, traveling at 54 mph in a 25-mph zone.

When the deputy stopped the car and asked the driver why he was speeding, the driver apologetically said, “I’m so sorry, officer.” When asked how long he had been driving, the driver said he’d only had his license for a few months. The deputy took the teen into custody on suspicion of reckless driving and contacted his mother, who came and took her car. The teen was taken to the Sammamish substation, where he was fingerprinted and released to his mother.

Criminal Warrant: Police arrested a 52-year-old Issaquah man after a routine check of his license plate revealed that he was wanted on a warrant for driving under the influence. The man’s mother picked up his car and he was taken to King County Jail.

Burglary: Police were dispatched to an unfinished home in the Glencoe development after a contractor discovered that someone had cut out a sizable amount of copper wiring. None of the other unfinished homes in the area appeared to be damaged.

Wednesday, Oct. 5

Burglary: A couple living on 188th Place Northeast contacted police after discovering that items had been stolen out of their garage and unlocked cars after the garage had been left open overnight. Two bicycles, two sleeping bags, a flashlight, three GPS units, a cell phone charger, a purse, a wallet, various credit and debit cards, house and car keys and $750 in cash were stolen. An expired Department of Energy badge was also among the stolen items, though it only allowed access to facilities in Arizona. One of the stolen bicycles was recovered a few blocks away by a deputy on the way to the scene.

Saturday, Oct. 8

DUI: Police arrested a 41-year-old Bothell woman they found sitting in her car near the intersection of Southeast Fourth Street and 228th Avenue Southeast after she lost control of her vehicle, hit a concrete median and blew out both drivers’ side tires. When police approached the car they found the woman talking on the phone. She rolled down the window and police immediately smelled intoxicants. The woman volunteered for field sobriety tests, which she failed. She admitted to having been drinking wine, champagne and a martini at a friend’s party. The woman was taken into custody, then later released at City Hall to a friend

Larceny: A cashier at the 7-Eleven on East Lake Sammamish Parkway contacted police after two males stole two 18-packs of beers each. The men walked in, grabbed the beer and walked out without paying. The cashier described the men as being 18 years old, 6 feet tall, and wearing baseball caps, one red and one blue.
