Monday, Aug. 13

Burglary through screen window: A Sammamish woman called police after returning home from work and discovering her house had been burglarized. She had left some windows open due to the heat of the day, and a burglar or burglars removed a kitchen screen window to gain access to the house. About $10,600 in women’s jewelry was stolen, along with a passport. It appeared the thieves wore gloves, so no prints were recovered from the scene.

Friday, Aug. 17

Indecent Exposure leads to DUI: An employee of Hop Jack’s bar in Klahanie called police to report a female customer was unruly and exposing herself to customers by undressing in the parking lot outside the bar. She apparently left the bar and returned in her car several times. Sammamish police located the 46-year-old Sammamish resident traveling north on 228th SE around SE 4th street, and pulled her out. One of the responding officers said in the report he remembered her as a person who had previously kicked out the window a patrol car in 2010. She was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs.

Monday, Aug. 20

Mail theft: Police were called to a Sammamish home on SE 30th Place where the resident reported that around 1 a.m. he had seen a suspicious man standing by his car. When he asked the man what he was doing, he replied, “Hiding from my girlfriend” and took off on foot. The next day, the resident’s wife found some discarded mail in a ditch, one of the items was a letter indicating a new driver’s license or id had been mailed, but it was empty, and the other was a letter from a health care provider, which also was empty. The home they were mailed to was vacant, and police attempted to contact the intended recipients.

Tuesday, Aug 21

Car prowl: A man reported to police the car his son drives was broken into while parked at the 700 block of 22nd Place NE. The window was broken and items stolen, including a Garmin GPS, a backpack, an iPod, and the boy’s driver’s license.

Burglary: A home at the 31000 block of 212 Ave SE was burglarized while the residents were away overnight. The female resident said she knew something was wrong when she returned home from camping and discovered the family’s gun safe out in the driveway. It appeared the burglars entered the house through a small  (1 by 1 ½ foot) side window that is left open for the family’s cat to go in and out. More than $18,000 in items were stolen, including $1,875 in rolls of quarters, an iPod, a gold and ruby bracelet, and about $4,500 in cash that was in a safe that was damaged in the burglary.

Wednesday, Aug 22

Purchase under fraudulent pretenses: A Sammamish man reported to police that he had agreed to sell his truck and trailer to a man for a down payment of $6,500, with a balance due of $6,500, and agreeing to sign the title over at the time of down payment, which he later regretted. Over the course of several days, the purchaser kept making excuses why he didn’t have the rest of the money yet, and eventually called police to report the incident, hoping that others could be helped after the man used false pretenses to scam him out of $6,500.

Vandalism at Beaver Lake Park: A city of Sammamish Parks employee reported to police that someone had entered a shed at Beaver Lake Park and took a John Deere 1200 gator for a joy ride, ramming it through the locking gate to the ball field, writing graffiti on the ball field with the striping equipment and damaging the field drag of the machine, leaving divots on the ball field grass also.

Thursday, Aug. 23

Honey bucket bombing: Police were dispatched to the 22000 block of 236th Ave NE to a construction site at around 9 p.m. after someone reported hearing what sounded like a gun shot and saw a cloud of dust from the area. The officers discovered the strong smell of sulfur and an exploded Advil bottle inside the honey bucket, though there didn’t appear to be any significant damage to the portable toilet.
