Sammamish Police Blotter: Purse Stolen at Elementary School

The following are incidents as reported by the Sammamish Police Department. An arrest doesn't indicate a conviction.

April 5

Vandalism: Staff members at Margaret Mead Elementary reported to police that someone had broken the plexiglass on the school’s front sign, and had used the letters in the sign to spell obscenities. The damage was estimated at about $400; the school told police this is the second time this year the sign had been vandalized.

Found Bicycle: A resident of the 2600 block of 226th Place NE reported to police that they had found a blue BMX-style Redline bicycle in some nearby bushes. At first, they thought perhaps someone had left it there because it had broken down, but no one cambe by to claim the bicycle. No bicycles of similar description had been reported stolen in the area.

Stolen wallet, Fraudulent charges: An employee at Samantha Smith Elementary reported that her wallet was stolen, she believed while at work. At about 11 a.m., she was contacted by several stores, including Nordstrom and Macy’s about very large attempted purchases, for $24,000 and $27,000, respectively. Both charges were denied, but fraudulent charges totaling about $1,700 were made on another credit card. Police are investigating.

Accident, D.U.I.: A 22-year old Yakima man was arrested for DUI and driving with a suspended license after rear-ending a Honda Fit at a red light in his Ford Explorer. The driver of the Honda had a one-year-old child in the car; the child’s knee was scraped, but no other injuries were reported. A witness said the Ford appeared not to brake before hitting the Honda. The driver of the Ford admitted to drinking after work, but claimed to have had just one beer. The officer administered a Breathalyzer test which read .125. About 15 minutes later, the test was repeated and he blew a .106 and a .099 on the Breathalyzer. The man was cited for driving while license suspended, no vehicle insurance, and DUI.

Child falls in lake: Police were dispatched to Pine Lake Park when neighbors heard a woman screaming for help.The woman told police her two year old son had fallen off the dock where they were feeding ducks into the lake. She dove in to get him, and was able to hang onto the edge of the dock with her son until passersby helped them get out. When she dove in, she had her car keys in her hand and her cell phone in her pocket. Police gave her a ride home and called her husband, as it was only about 50 degrees outside. The child and his mother were uninjured.

March 27

Fraudulent Police Report: An employee at the Redmond Pool apparently forged a Sammamish Police report with the intent of getting another employee at the pool fired.

Shoplifting: A 13-year-old junior high student was cited by police for shoplifting numerous makeup items from Bartell Drugswith two friends by putting them in the backpack. The girl who was detained for shoplifting was barred from Bartell’s for one year.

Stolen guns pawned: A 27-year old Sammamish man was found pawning a rifle, shotgun, and golf clubs that were stolen from an open garage about six months ago.

March 23

Burglary: A woman living near the 2000 block of 247th Pl NE reported to police that she had parked her car in the garage but left the door open after returning home from the gym with her children. When she went back out to her car about an hour later, she discovered that her purse and gym bag were missing. The bag and purse contained a green Cannon Elf camera, a brown Coach purse with cash, credit cards and gift cards, a white iPhone 4, and a gray Nike duffel bag with clothes, running shoes and a curling iron. The value of the items stolen was estimated at about $1,200. Neighbors said they saw a dark green 90s four-door model Honda Civic in the neighborhood with two women inside. Police were able to collect possible fingerprints.
