Sammamish Police Blotter: Skyline Student Speeds to School, Thief Swipes Attorney's Files and More Credit Card Fraud

Sammamish police stay busy during a week when a woman spots a suspicious vehicle and residents get hit by bank fraud.

Tuesday, March 8

Suspicious Circumstances: A Sammamish woman contacted police after twice seeing a suspicious vehicle speed away. She first saw the car on Monday, March 7, parked on a street near her home. Once she was within view of the car it sped off. She reported seeing the same car the next day while walking on 228th Avenue. Fearful, the woman walked to a nearby fire station and contacted police, who drove her home. She described the car as a late 1990s or early 2000s grey or black 2-door coupe.

Fraud: A Sammamish man contacted police after noticing a series of eight unauthorized transactions for $192.04, while checking his bank account online. The man still has his debit card in his possession and has no knowledge of how the transactions were made.

Larceny: A Sammamish woman contacted police after her car was broken into and several items were stolen from inside. The car had been parked at a residence on Northeast 4th Street while the woman visited her boyfriend. The car’s front passenger window was shattered and a drawstring bag, $60 in cash, a debit card, a bag of quarters, a purse and a wallet were stolen.

Larceny: A couple living on 229th Avenue Southeast contacted police after items were stolen from their Lexus RX300. The SUV had been parked unlocked overnight and a black fleece coat and a leather handbag were stolen. The female victim, an attorney, reported that the handbag contained personal client files.

Vandalism: Sammamish police were contacted after a man found the right front window of his Ford Escape shattered. The vehicle had been parked outside his home overnight. While the vehicle had appeared to have been searched, nothing was reported as missing.

Wednesday, March 9

Larceny: A Sammamish woman contacted police after she noticed a discrepancy with her bank balance online. She contacted her bank, which informed her that at least five unauthorized transactions hade been made for a total of $142.76. All of the charges were made at Shell gas stations. The woman believes that she may have left her debit card at a Shell station and that someone else was now using it. She has canceled the card.

Fraud: A Sammamish woman contacted police after she discovered four unauthorized charges that had been made to her bank account over the weekend, totaling $194.00. All of the charges were made at a Bellevue retail outlet, “Jamboree Play.” The woman contacted the store and spoke to the manager, who said that he knew who had made the charges but would not disclose that information to her. The account has been closed.

Reckless Driving: Sammamish police arrested an 18-year-old Skyline High School student after he was spotted speeding and passing a slower vehicle in a no passing zone on Beaver Lake Drive Southeast. The driver was traveling at 59 mph in a 25 mph zone and had crossed a double yellow line on a two-lane road to pass. The driver expressed remorse and said he was running late for school. In addition to being arrested, the driver was cited for speeding and not having a valid license in his possession. He was charged with reckless driving and later released to his father.

Friday, March 11

Larceny: Police were contacted after three suspects were spotted stealing firewood from the Safeway on 228th Avenue Northeast. A witness noticed the suspects loading firewood into the trunk of a BMW convertible and asked a cashier if they had paid. When the cashier went outside to speak to the suspects, they fled the scene. Sammamish police later made arrests in connection with this case.

Larceny: A Sammamish man contacted police after his parents' car was broken into and several items were stolen while it was parked outside their home. The front passenger window of the vehicle was shattered and a backpack, college textbooks and a laptop computer were stolen.
