Sammamish Police Blotter: Teens Caught With Marijuana, Another Argues With Mother and a man is Arrested for Domestic Violence

Three teens get caught smoking marijuana at a local school, another throws a fit when he fears he's about to lose his Internet, and a man gets arrested for throwing a cell phone at his girlfriend.

Sunday, March 13

Drug possession: While patrolling early Sunday morning, a King County Sheriff's deputy working for Sammamish police spotted a Chevy Avalanche parked in the back parking area. When the deputy approached the vehicle, he found three male teenagers inside. The deputy immediately smelled marijuana and asked the occupants to produce any drugs in their possession. One of the boys surrendered a small bag containing approximately 0.5 grams of marijuana and a smoking pipe. The deputy confiscated the items and instructed each of the teens to contact his parents. Each of the juveniles was later released to his parents and the drugs and pipe were taken away for disposal.

Tuesday, March 15

Larceny: A Redmond woman contacted police after items were stolen from her vehicle while it was parked at the on 244th Avenue Northeast. The woman had left the vehicle to walk her child into preschool. She returned a few minutes later and noticed that her purse was gone. Along with the purse, assorted bank and credit cards were taken, a driver’s license, a Kindle e-book, a wallet and $60 cash. Police advised the woman to cancel her bank and credit cards and keep an eye out for any unauthorized transactions on her accounts. 

Wednesday, March 16

Fraud: A Sammamish woman contacted police after her bank notified her of $1,083.15 in charges made to her account. The charges were being made in Redlands, Calif. and many of them were at a Barnes & Noble store. The woman said that she had driven through the area in January during a road trip to Arizona, but had no idea how her bank information had been obtained.

Thursday, March 17

Burglary: Police were dispatched to a residence on Beaver Lake Drive Southeast after the homeowners had reported that a leaf blower and hearing protection had been stolen from a workbench in their garage, which has been left open. One homeowner said that she had already seen three similar leaf blowers listed on Craigslist.

Friday, March 18

Fourth Degree Assault: Sammamish police arrested a 29-year-old man after they were called to Overlake Hospital Medical Center to investigate a domestic violence charge that originated in Sammamish. Bellevue police had questioned the three parties involved (a witness, the victim and the suspect) and were told three different stories. The most likely scenario seemed to be that the man had thrown his cell phone at his 20-year-old girlfriend during an argument outside the 7-Eleven store on East Lake Sammamish Parkway. The woman had a cut over her left eye that required stitches. 

Saturday, March 19

Juvenile Disturbance: Police were dispatched to a residence on 233rd Place Northeast after a woman complained that her son had been verbally and emotionally abusive to her. When police arrived, he noticed that the woman was visibly shaken and that she appeared to have been crying. The woman explained that she had caught her teenage son smoking marijuana earlier in the day and had threatened to disconnect his Internet service again. An argument ensued when the son feared his mother was calling their Internet service provider to disconnect his service. When questioned by police, the son admitted to smoking marijuana and apologized for screaming at his mother. Police reminded the teen that marijuana was illegal to smoke or posses and told the mother to contact police if she ever feared for her safety again.
