Sammamish Police Investigate Drinking Party, Where Teen Girl Said Rape Happened But Later Changed Account

The parents of the teenage girl, a Sammamish resident, took her to the hospital for an examination.

Editor's note: This summary is from the Sammamish police reports. The incident was reported on Sunday, May 22 and is in the most recently-released summaries of police responses.

Parents of a 15-year-old girl contacted police after their daughter came home from a party on Saturday night (May 21) drunk and wearing clothing different from the ones she had left the house in. The girl initially said that she had been raped but would not say by whom, then later changed her account.

The girl admitted to having been drinking alcohol at the party and said that she rested on a couch when she began to feel drunk. A friend later took her to an upstairs bedroom so she could rest. The girl said she didn’t remember this happening. She recalled waking up in a bathroom and regurgitating. Later, she woke up again with different clothing on because her shirt was apparently covered in regurgitation and alcohol. She said she remembered only girls being around the upstairs bedroom.

When police spoke with her, she said that she didn’t remember telling her mother that she had been raped and adamantly denied it. The girl volunteered for a breath test, blowing a .152. In Washington state, Sammamish police have said, a juvenile can be detained for investigation of driving under the influence if that level is 0.02.

Police questioned a friend of the girl, a male, who said that she had told him that she had consumed six shots of alcohol. At the time she told him this, she was drinking a beer. He said that she couldn’t stand or walk on her own and that he had helped her to the couch. Other people had helped her upstairs, he said, and that he had checked on her later on and found clean clothing for her. He left the clothing for her but did not help her change, he told police.

Police questioned a second friend, also a male, who admitted that he and the girl had some consensual sexual contact before the party but that they did not have intercourse.

The girl’s parents later took her to  to have an examination. Results are still pending.

Also: Sammamish Patch contacted Sgt. John Urquhart, a spokesman for the King County Sheriff's Office, to check whether authorities have the examination results. The agency provides police services in Sammamish. "This is still under investigation and at this point we don’t know what occurred," he said. "We are waiting for lab results."
