Sheriffs Seek Area Teens Missing in Alpine Lakes Area

The following is a news release from the King County Sheriff's Office

Two Snohomish County teens are missing after hiking to the Mason Lake area of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness.  The Sheriff’s Office is asking anybody who was hiking in this area on Sunday, June 30 or Monday, July 1 to call (206) 296-3311 if they saw either of the teens hiking in the area.

Ricardo Perez, an 18 year old Kamiak High School graduate from Edmonds, and Brian Chim a 19 year old University of Washington student from Mukilteo, left Snohomish County yesterday at about 7:00 A.M. to hike and swim in the Mason Lake area of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness.  The two teens did not come home last night, and their parents reported them missing.

The King County Sheriff’s Office and King County Search and Rescue are combing the area for the two inexperienced hikers.  The trails are wide and well-used and the trails had a lot of hikers during this time.  The overnight conditions in the area were very survivable, but searchers have not yet located the teens.  Search efforts began early July 1, 2013 with Sheriff’s deputies, search and rescue volunteers, and the KCSO Air Unit (Guardian 2 helicopter).

Ricardo Perez was last seen wearing shorts and a light blue jacket.  He is about 5’11” tall and 185 lbs.
