Shoplifter Tased by Police at Pine Lake Chevron — Sammamish Police Blotter

The following information from July 2-6 was supplied by the Sammamish Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Sammamish Police used tasers to subdue a 24-year-old resident during a July 2 shoplifting incident after the suspect was caught with stolen cigarettes, a cigar and two energy bars near the Chevron gas station on the 3000 block of 228th Ave. SE at 9:46 p.m.

A police officer spotted him milling around the gas station where the goods were stolen from when they arrived, and was able to catch him on foot, using the taser when the man resisted arrest.

The man said he ran because he had recently crashed his car and "did not want to go back to jail."

July 2


Attempted Burglary: A 74-year-old woman reported noises outside her home on the 1700 block of East Lake Sammamish Parkway SE at 2:45 a.m. and noticed via a home alarm monitor that her front door was unsecured. She later found the door had been damaged but remained locked.

Solicitor/Business License Violation: Police noticed a maroon van pulling away from the road shoulder and then dropping off young man "wearing … attire as commonly wore by door to door sales people." Police stopped the van at the Chevron station on the 3000 block of 228th Ave. SE at 2:20 p.m. and contacted the occupants, a 20-year-old woman and two men, ages 28 and 40. They did not have Sammamish solicitation permits. The trio were released on a warning.

Suspicious Circumstances: A landscaping company working on the Trossachs subdivision in the area of SE Belevdere Way and Trossachs Blvd SE discovered several pairs of young ladies underwear behind the Trossachs neighborhood sign at 9:31 a.m. The four pairs of underwear were found later by an officer, who surmised that the place they were found was "possible be a spot teens go to engage in activities they would not do at home, and away from their parents."

Suspicious Circumstances: A resident of a home near the intersection of SE 25th Street and 272 Way SE noticed plastic wrap around a few of the trees surrounding the intersection. She said she worried that juveniles are again trying to stretch plastic wrap across the street, as occurred about a year ago.

July 4


Hit-and-Run: A "new" 18-year-old driver reportedly lost control of a white 1989 Chrysler New Yorker near the intersection of East Main Drive and 249th Place NE at 6:30 p.m. The car jumped the curb and hit a decorative light pole, then left the scene of the accident. The property owner declined to press charges.

July 6


Civil Problem: A man gathering his belongings from a home on the 1700 block of 211 Way NE at 4:02 p.m. due to a separation was ordered not to drive away after police discovered his license was suspended.

Disturbance: The mentally disturbed uncle of an 18-year-old man reportedly hit his nephew and became emotional, causing a disturbance at 5:56 p.m. inside a home on the 22900 block of NE 16th Place. Police tried to calm the situation but the young man was later kicked out of the home by his father, explaining that he was fearful of what his brother, the uncle, might do to his son. The boy later returned home.
