Wednesday House Fire Causes About $550K in Damages

The Sammamish fire was reported Wednesday around 6 p.m. Medics took an elderly man, who was inside the home, to the hospital.

The Wednesday night house fire in the Sahalee neighborhood of Sammamish was caused either by a golf cart or the charger attached to it, Tom Devine of the King County Sheriff’s Office fire investigation unit said Friday morning.

The cart was plugged in an outlet at the time, he said. The initial dollar damage estimate is between $500,000 and $550,000. That includes the structure, vehicles in the garage and contents. Insurance companies, Devine added, determine the actual dollar amount.

In the garage at the time, he said, were a Ford Ranchero and another car. Both were lost in the blaze, which shot flames up as high as 50 feet and decimated walls and the roof.

Neighbors reported flames coming from the house in the 2000 block of 208th Place Northeast on Wednesday around 6 p.m. Greg Barton, a neighbor, entered the burning building, found the elderly man who lives there and moved him to safety outside.

Medics arrived and took the elderly man to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. On Thursday, the resident was in serious condition but was "improving," Harborview spokeswoman Susan Gregg said.
