Updated: Whitten, Valderrama and Vance All Lead in City Council Races

Whitten/Richardson and Valderrama/Wasnick races close, Vance leads Bornfreund by over 30 percent.

In the race for Sammamish City Council Position No. 2, incumbent Nancy Whitten leads challenger Kathy Richardson with 3,228 votes (53.55 percent), to Richardson's 2,787 votes (46.23 percent).

The early results have Whitten feeling pretty confident of the eventual outcome.

"I'm looking forward to the next four years serving the citizens of Sammamish," Whitten said.

Richardson, though, is still hopefull with another round of results coming Wednesday afternoon. 

"We'll see what happens," Richardson said.

No matter what, Richardson feels like she's in a win-win position. She says that she will either be elected to city council or continue to be able to serve the city on the planning commission.

"Either way I'm still providing a service to our community," Richardson said.

In the race for Sammamish City Council Position No. 4, Ramiro Valderrama leads Jim Wasnick with 3,345 votes (56.47 percent), to Wasnick's 2,566 votes (43.32 percent).

"I'm humbled by all the support I've received from the citizens of Sammamish," Valderrama said.

In the race for Sammamish City Council Position No. 6, Tom Vance leads Jesse Bornfreund with 3,883 votes (67.7 percent), to Bornfreund's 1,833 votes (31.96 percent).

"I'm very grateful and humbled by the whole process," Vance said. "I thank the voters and I thank all my supporters."

Bornfreund was upbeat but admitted to being disappointed with early results, though he's not ready to concede.

"I'm not ready to cash it in quite yet," Bornfreund said.

According to King County, these figures represent 6,910 ballots cast out of 27,117 registered voters in Sammamish, approximately 25 percent. The county projected turnout of 52 percent.

Ballots are continuing to be counted and King County will release updated results tomorrow at 4:30 pm.

Updates will follow throughout the night.
