Construction Update: SE 32nd St. has Traffic Circles, Curb Extensions

Sammamish Patch visited Southeast 32nd Street to see what changes have been made.

Traffic circles now adorn residential Southeast 32nd Street, as do curb extensions.

They are part of the traffic and pedestrian improvements that the Sammamish City Council requested in March, when the governing body approved the removal of King County-era traffic barriers on the street.

City leaders backed the removal to improve the connection of streets and neighborhoods. But with nearby and children in the neighborhood, elected officials asked for the traffic and pedestrian improvements - which neighborhood residents wanted.

In July, the for Westwater Construction Co. to make the improvements.

On Thursday, Sammamish Patch dropped by the barriers, which are located at Southeast 32nd Street and 222nd Court Southeast, to see the work in action and give readers an update. There are at least three traffic circles on the street.

A crew member said the curb extensions will allow water to go through so plants can be grown in them.

She also said that the red-and-white barriers had been removed so work could be done. But at the end each workday, she said, they would be returned. They will be removed permanently once the project is finished.

Editor's note: To give readers a sense of the construction project, the first 10 photographs were taken this week. The remaining photographs were taken around March, the month when the City Council approved removing the barriers, or around July.
