I-90 Overnight Closures Begin Aug. 24
Roadwork on I-90 and SR 520 are responsible for lane closures and express lane swaps starting Wednesday through the end of the week.
Nighttime drivers traveling on eastbound Interstate 90 between Seattle and Bellevue should plan for two nights of overnight lane and ramp closures for construction beginning tonight. Crews will be working on overhead signs and sign structures on the highway, including on the I-90 floating bridge, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
Drivers can expect the following closures tonight:
- At 9 p.m. crews will begin closing eastbound lanes on I-90 between I-5 and the Mount Baker Tunnel in Seattle. At the same time, crews will close three on-ramps to eastbound I-90 from northbound I-5 and both directions of Rainier Avenue in Seattle.
- At 11 p.m. crews will shift all eastbound I-90 traffic between I-5 at the Mount Baker Tunnel to the express lanes.
- At 11:59 p.m. crews will close the off-ramp from eastbound I-90 to Bellevue Way.
All eastbound lanes of I-90 will reopen by 4 a.m., and all affected access ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning.

Crews will also conduct rolling slowdowns on eastbound I-90 between Rainier Avenue S. in Seattle and East Mercer Way on Mercer Island from 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25 and 5 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26 to remove overhead signs. Drivers should expect up to 15-minute delays.
