State Route 520 Set to Close this Weekend

All lanes will be closed between Seattle and I-405 beginning at 11 p.m. Friday.

The newly tolled State Route 520 will be closed all weekend between Montlake Boulevard in Seattle and I-405 so crews can move in massive concrete girders for new lidded overpasses above the roadway.

The closure will begin at 11 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, and continue through 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, according to a news release from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).

During the closure, crews will moving in concrete girders that weigh more than two million pounds. They will be used to construct new lidded overpasses at Evergreen Point Road and 92nd Avenue Northeast.

Heaviest traffic over the weekend is expected during the middle of the day Saturday and Sunday on I-5 and I-90 approaching Seattle and on I-405 approaching I-90, according to WSDOT. Express lane schedules will change on both I-5 and I-90 to help traffic flow more easily.
