The Toll Also Rises: SR 520 Rates Going Up 2.5% on July 1

The state Transportation Commission voted unanimously Wednesday to increase the floating bridge toll rates - the peak Good to Go! fee will be $3.70, while the peak Pay by Mail rate will be $5.25.

If you want to cross Lake Washington on the State Route 520 floating bridge, you will soon have to throw down a bit more cash - since the toll rate is going up after a unanimous vote Wednesday, May 22, by the State Transportation Commission.

After two weeks of gathering and considering public comment, the panel adopted a 2.5 percent increase in toll fees, beginning July 1.

The new peak rates for Good to Go!@ passes will jump from $3.59 (for crossing 7-9 a.m. and 3-6 p.m.) to $3.70 per crossing, while Pay by Mail rates bounce from $5.13 to $5.25.

In a press release, the office of the Washington State Transportation Commission said traffic and revenue are on track to generate $1 billion overall toward the $4.65 billion State Route 520 bridge replacement and HOV program.

The project includes 12.8 miles of safety and mobility improvements from Interstate 5 in Seattle across the lake past Kirkland and Bellevue to State Route 202 in Redmond, the state reported.

The new bridge across the lake is scheduled to open in 2016. This year’s increase is the second of four annual, 2.5 percent rate increases for SR 520 planned through 2015, the press release said.

The complete toll-rate schedule for the SR 520 bridge will be posted online before the end of the month at www.wstc.wa.gov.
