Five Democrats Bid for 41st District House Seat Appointment Tonight

Democratic Party officials will offer the King County Council three candidates, in order of preference, to replace Rep. Marcie Maxwell to represent the 41st District for the coming legislative session.

Party officials of the 41st District Democrats are preparing to put forward their preference for the appointment to State Representative Marcie Maxwell’s vacated House seat Wednesday night in Bellevue.

The Precinct Committee Officers (PCO) will vote on Wednesday, Aug. 21 at the regular scheduled 41st LD membership meeting to nominate three potential appointees to serve out the remainder of Maxwell's term, which expires in 2014.

Five candidates seeking the appointment are in contention for nomination: George Pieper, Tann Senn, Gregory Scott Hoover, Don Gerend and David Ellis. Gerend is a long-serving Sammamish city council member and former mayorm and is running to retain his seat in November. Hoover, also a Sammamish resident, is principal at his own lawfirm, which operates offices in Bellevue, Seattle and Portland. Candidate questionnaires submitted for all five candidates are available here.

The appointment will be conducted by King County Democratic Central Committee (KCDCC) Chair Karl deJong.

The meeting will be held at Eastshore Unitarian Church, 12700 SE 32nd St, Bellevue, 98005, 7-9 p.m.

Prior to conducting the vote for potential appointees, PCOs will be appointed to unrepresented precincts. According to 41st District Democrats, nearly half of the 200 precincts in the district are currently unrepresented, and new appointed PCOs will have a vote on the potential House of Representative appointees.

The King County Council will subsequently choose one of the three nominates as the appointee to fill the vacant House seat in September, or, in the event of a Council deadlock, Governor Inslee will do the selection.
