Volunteers needed for project at Jacobs Creek

The city is looking for people to help with a planting project on Saturday, Oct. 15.

The is looking for volunteers to help with the annual overhaul of the wetlands area at Southeast 42nd Street and Issaquah Pine Lake Road on Saturday, Oct. 15 between 9:00 am and noon.

Volunteers will work with city staff to help remove invasive plant species and plant native species that the city says will enhance the area.

“We want to give it a really healthy start,” said Dawn Sanders, volunteer coordinator with the City of Sammamish.

Sanders said that she is looking for 15 volunteers for the short project.

“Three hours at the most,” Sanders said.

Sanders said the city is looking for volunteers 14 years or older, and says that they need to wear boots or closed toe shoes on the site and need to bring work gloves. The city will be providing all the necessary tools.

Sanders said that the work is ideal for anyone who is interested in the outdoors or is looking to learn more about working in environmental restoration and protection. She also added that it’s a great spot to help out at.

“It’s really a neat area,” Sanders said.

Those interested in helping out can sign up online or call Sanders for more information at 425-295-0556.

Sanders said that she will be out there regardless of weather.

“We’ll be out there rain or shine,” Sanders said.

Sanders also said that she’ll have a little something to thank the volunteers as well.

“I always bring snacks and water,” Sanders said.
