Valderrama, Vance Win City Council Seats

Nancy Whitten continues to lead Kathy Richardson in race for Position No. 2.

In the race for Sammamish City Council Position No. 4, Jim Wasnick has conceeded victory to Ramiro Valderrama, who currently leads Wasnick with 4,667 votes (56.88 percent), to Wasnick's 3,519 votes (42.89 percent).

Despite falling short, Wasnick feels good about his campaign.

"I feel incredibly positive about the campaign I ran," Wasnick said.

Wasnick isn't ruling out another attempt in two years.

"Let's see how we're doing in two years," Wasnick said.

In the race for Sammamish City Council Position No. 6, Jesse Bornfreund has conceeded victory to Tom Vance, who leads Bornfreund with 5,406 votes (68.15 percent), to Bornfreund's 2,494 votes (31.44 percent).

"I'm grateful to the voters and looking forward to what I think will be a good council for the next two years," Vance said.

Bornfreund was happy with his campaign and respectful of his opponent.

"It was nice to be in a non-contentious race," Bornfreund said.

Bornfreund said the experience of running was fantastic and that he enjoyed meeting new people and learning so much more about the city.

"All in all it's been a fantastic experience," Bornfreund said.

In the race for Sammamish City Council Position No. 2, incumbent Nancy Whitten leads challenger Kathy Richardson with 4,474 votes (53.36 percent), to Richardson's 3,889 votes (46.39 percent).

According to King County, these figures represent 9,658 ballots cast out of 27,117 registered voters in Sammamish, approximately 35.62 percent. The county projected turnout of 52 percent.

Ballots are continuing to be counted and King County will release updated results on Monday, Nov. 14, at 4:30 pm.
