Citizens for Sammamish is hosting a community meeting tonight, Monday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. at the EX3 Teen Center in Sammamish to hear both sides of the issue of a new multi-purpose community center, which will be up for an advisory vote in the November election. Recently while another group has set up a site in opposition of the project.

The meeting is open to all. Speakers and guests will be on hand as Jim Osgood moderates the "pros" and "cons" from participants and entertains questions from the audience.

The measure that will appear on the Nov. 6 ballot is an “advisory” vote, intended to give the Sammamish City Council a sense of how voters in Sammamish feel about the potential construction of a community and aquatic center in Sammamish.

Among other things, the proposed community and aquatic center would include a leisure pool, lap pool, jogging track, weights, two gymnasiums, cardio and group fitness space, multipurpose rooms, locker rooms, a child-watch area and on-site parking.  The estimated building size: 60,000 square feet.

Our recreation dept. here in Sammamish needs a boost. This would be a wonderful thing to have in our community just like Issaquah has. I have wanted this since they called 7 yrs. ago and had me on the phone for 20 min, doing a survey about a community center! It's taking them too long! I play tennis so would still belong to Pine Lake Club but it would be a great place for our family to go. And our recreation dept could host many more classes like Issaquah and Redmond do already. Then we wouldn't have to take extra time to go off the Plateau. Vote yes!

Hey, sorry about that, it's at 7 p.m. per the calendar, but I inadvertently left the time out of the article.
