Alison Meryweather Announces Bid for Election to Issaquah School Board

Meryweather was appointed to the school board in March and will face Grand Ridge PTSA board member Lisa Callan in this fall's election.

Alison Meryweather announced she will run for election to Issaquah School District Position 4 in this November’s election, according to a press release.

Meryweather was appointed to the school board in March to fill the vacancy created by the departure of Chad Magendanz who was elected to the state legislature. She will face Grand Ridge PTSA board member Lisa Callan in this fall's election.

Meryweather said she looks forward to continuing the work of the board and building on its well-recognized successes in challenging times.

“My focus is to ensure that the district's priorities are student-centered, community based and fiscally responsible.” said Meryweather, “Our children and teachers deserve our best efforts to support their success.  Our parents deserve transparency for were their money is spent to get results.”

Alison received her degree from the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and French. Her family has lived in Issaquah for over 25 years and she has two daughters attending Issaquah High School.

As a long time supporter of public education, Meryweather has served in many capacities to deliver resources to support the Issaquah School District. For the past twelve years, Alison has served on her local PTSA Boards as well as a term as the President of the Issaquah PTSA Council. Alison also served for three years as the Advocacy Representative on Council spending time in Olympia as a citizen advocate successfully lobbying legislators to pass essential comprehensive education reforms in 2009. Since then, she has stayed engaged to assure those promises are kept and the state meets its constitutional duty to fully fund basic education.

Meryweather is a board member of Volunteers for Issaquah Schools; a citizen group that runs the District's Bond and Levy campaigns.  She has successfully raised local funds for maintenance and operations, as well as funding school building improvements to address student population growth.

"It has been an amazing learning experience to work with our community. That continuing support for our students and district year after year is built on relationships and understanding all points-of-view." said Alison.

Meryweather also serves as a trustee on the Issaquah Schools Foundation, which provides additional community philanthropy to support innovative learning programs.

"The foundation provides ‘the little extra’ that enables teachers to deliver new creative ways to actively engage our students in learning and encourage individual achievement. It is always exciting," she said.

Alison’s volunteer work on the boards of strategic partners of the Issaquah School District is driven by her strong sense of building community to problem-solve.

"A school board election is always a dialog about our common investment in the future of each child. I look forward to that,” said Alison, “The world is a competitive place.  We need to ensure our students reach their full potential to be successful in that world.  Our school district is fortunate to have a community that fully embraces making that happen."
