Eastlake's Edward Kim Brings Home Pair of Swim Titles

A number of local athletes placed in state, and the action continues with girls' basketball regionals coming up this weekend.

Eastlake High School sophomore Edward Kim smashed the competition in the mens 200-yard freestyle competition at the WIAA championships, finishing more than four seconds in the lead. He brought home the mens' 100-yard backstroke title as well. Meanwhile, a number of local athletes placed in the state competitions in swimming and wrestling.

The Skyline Girls' Basketball team won the KingCo District Tournament and takes on the Stanwood Spartans tonight at Stanwood at 7:30 p.m. in competition for a berth at regionals coming up this weekend. If the Spartans win, they'll play Feb. 25 at 4 p.m. at Auburn High School against the winner of district 3/4 matchup, also playing tonight.

The Eastlake Girls' Basketball team have already secured a spot at regionals, and will take on Rogers (Puyallup) in the regionals at Juanita High School on Feb. 25, at 4 p.m.

Here's a rundown of Sammamish athletes at state competition last weekend:

Eastlake Mens 4A Swimmers:

  • Edward Kim, first in the mens' 200 freestyle; first in the mens' 100 backstroke
  • Zach Alleva, 2nd in the 100 yard breast and 4th in the mens' 100-yard freestyle  
  • Jackson Berman, 13th in the mens' 500 freestyle
  • Ant Signoretty, 7th in mens 1 meter diving
  • Eastlake Medley Relay team, Kim, Alleva, Jason Kroon, and Henry O'Neil, took 3rd in State.
  • Eastlake Mens 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team of Kim, Alleva, O'Neil, and Berman took 2nd in state.

Skyline Mens 4A Swim and Dive:

  • Paul Jett, 7th in the 200-yard IM
  • Alec Raines, 13th in the mens' 200-yard freestyle, 4th in the mens' 500-yard freestyle
  • Max Levy—2nd in the mens 1 meter diving.
  • Skyline mens' 400 Yard Freestyle relay team of Jett, Raines, Ashton Powell, and Mick D'Alo took 13th in state. 

Skyline 4A Wrestling:

  • Kara Alden, 6th place girls' wrestling weight class 145 

Crusaders 3A Wrestling:

  • Joe Stoutt, 4th in state, weight class 195
  • Matt Iwicki, 3rd in state in his weight class 113

Eastlake 4A Wresting:

  • Eric Harper, 6th in state, weight class 170
