Eastside Catholic Athletes Making Strong Winter Showing

The Crusaders Varsity Boys Basketball team won WIAA Scholastic honors, and a number of Eastside Athletes are competing in state finals today and tomorrow.

Eastside Catholic is wrapping up its winter sports season with some impressive finishes. 

The Crusaders Varsity Boys Basketball team tied with Mt. Spokane High School to win top academic honors from the WIAA in the 3A Division of the Scholastic Awards Program, which recognizes the team with the highest grade point average among all Washington high schools in their enrollment classification.

The winning teams will be presented with a special plaque at the WIAA/Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires State Championships.

Crusaders Wrestling is being represented at the WIAA state Wresting Championships today and tomorrow, Feb. 17-18, by five wrestlers:

  • Kea Roberts
  • Joe Stoutt
  • Jon Obernesser
  • Bradley Strode
  • Matt Iwicki

Roberts, Stoutt, and Obernesser all finished second in the Regional 31 District 2 competition to qualify, Strode finished fourth to qualify, and Iwicki finished his day with a 12-second pin for the Championship to qualify. For the schedule of events today and tomorrow, check the WIAA Website.
