Sunny Hills Elementary Welcomes New Principal

The Issaquah School District announced Tuesday that Leslie Lederman will be Sunny Hills Elementary's new principal for the 2013-2014 school year.

Lederman, 48, has worked in Issaquah schools for the past 19 years and was most recently Grand Ridge Elementary's assistant principal. She will replace principal Sarah White, who will be the district's new director of instructional support.

Retiring Superintendent Dr. Steve Rassmussen and incoming Superintendent Ron Thiele praised Lederman's leadership acumen and experience in a school district email announcement, citing her development and management of many administrative programs for the Issaquah School District.

"We have been impressed, and we know you will be, too," said the district email.

Most recently, Lederman has served as the assistant principal/program assistant at Grand Ridge Elementary. Before then, she has been an instructional coach, technology coach, and elementary teacher for the district.

According to Superintendent's statement:

"In these roles, she has been instrumental in designing and engaging teachers in best instructional practices; using data to set and achieve goals; focusing on technology-driven lessons to engage deep thinking skills; and—overall—managing and running all operations of an elementary school. She is also very familiar with our district initiatives, such as the new teacher evaluation pilot, so she will hit the ground running.

Mrs. Lederman is incredibly student focused, and she will make it her top priority to build relationships by listening to Sunny Hills staff, students, and parents during her initial year. She wants to get to know you and the culture of your school; when she understands what makes Sunny Hills such a successful school, she hopes to use those strengths to support all levels of learners at even higher levels of achievement … and fun!

In the coming years, Sunny Hills will rebuild itself—quite literally—with new opportunities while retaining its strong sense of pride and excellence. Hiring Mrs. Lederman is the first step in that exciting process."
