Whiz Kid: Eastside Catholic School's Megan Mills Swims Away With Four Golds

Special Olympian Megan Mills won four golds at a recent Northwest Regional swim meet.

Each week, Sammamish Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens, and even sports teams who wow us with their accomplishments.

This week, we congratulate Megan Mills, a student and swimmer at Eastside Catholic School.

Name, age: Megan Mills, 17.

School and Neighborhood: A junior at , Mills lives in Sammamish.

Accomplishments: Mills won four gold medals at the recent held on April 16. She finished first in the 50-meter butterfly, 100-meter individual medley, 50-meter freestyle, and her team finished first in the 4x50 meter medley relay.

Key to awesomeness: She has been swimming for years and is known for her competitiveness and willingness to work really hard to improve.

“She is really probably one of the fiercest competitors I have ever met,” said Rhonda Bunker, a coach who worked with Megan for two years.

Mills practices four days a week and competes for both Eastside Catholic and her club team, the Eastside Indians.

She is known for her strong starts, something that gives her an advantage right at the start of a race.

“She’s got beautiful technique,” said Bunker.

Mills loves being a part of a team end enjoys the camaraderie she shares with her teammates and fellow students. 

In addition to swimming, she enjoys basketball and baseball.

Mills is known for having a great attitude and is friends with nearly everyone at Eastside Catholic.

“She is one of the most congenial, funny people I’ve ever met,” said Bunker.

Many of those friends came out to cheer for Mills at the regional competition, including her friends on the baseball team.

In her free time, she enjoys watching movies and listening to Taylor Swift. She also loves to go out and eat and hopes to one day work at a Red Robin or Dairy Queen, two of her favorite eateries.
