Wanted: A Major League Baseball team in Seattle, My thoughts on Eric Wedge leaving the Mariners

Eric Wedge earlier on Friday joined the likes of Lou Piniella, and Mike Hargrove and informed the Mariners that he would not be returning as manager in 2014. This move by Eric Wedge supposedly caught Mariners General Manager Jack Zdurencik by surprise. As someone who has seen first hand decisions made in other sports to leave coaches hanging by a thread with one-year contracts and assistant coaches forced on them. I don't buy what Zduriencik is saying for one second. Zduriencik has about much credibility to stand on the Port of Seattle's fight against the proposed Sonics arena as he has zero credibility left. He had to have seen this move by Wedge coming if he didn't then he has no business still being the general manager of this so-called professional baseball team.

The bottom line is the narrative about Jack being a nice guy while accurate in that he is a decent interview to listen to but the bottom line is he has not been very good at his job. This is year five of this nonsense that the media and some Jack Z. loyalists call rebuilding you can't be losing 90 games.

The Seattle fans need to demand even more accountability from the media in pushing them to go after the Mariners for their ineptness. For example, the anger and vitriol I heard on the Dave Softy Mahler program this afternoon on KJR was some of the most brilliant radio I heard on that station about the Mariners in a long time. Why was it so great because it kept the focus where it belonged on the Mariners being a carnival act of an organization instead of talking about what a nice guy the general manager is as Softy went after Jack Z asked the questions that needed to be asked. The empty seats at Safeco Field are not enough because Armstrong and Lincoln will continue to mainpulate the payroll to make a profit for the franchise as that is all that matters to the two most self-centered human beings that have ever been a part of the Seattle sports scene. They do not care about winning, they sure as heck don't have the will to compete like Pete Caroll, the Seahawks, and the Sounders do as they are the gold standard in this town as far as competing goes. They also are the gold standard in this town for  doing this crazy thing called trying to win at the highest level in their respective sports.

At the end of the day I think I need to be honest with myself in that as far as pro sports go there is the Seahawks, Sounders, and the Storm, I can't in good conscience refer to baseball team that resides in Safeco Field as a Major League Baseball team until Chuck, and Howard do the right thing and step aside. They need to step aside for the future of the youth in this area who have been robbed of real legitimate professional baseball since 2002 and that the next generation of kids have a competitive team to be proud of to call their own instead of having to root for the Red Sox, Dodgers, or Yankees. In closing, please for the love of god Chuck and Howard step down enjoy retirement so a  baseball version of the Carroll and Schneider duo that the Seahawks have can take over the Mariners, and compete like crazy to bring that elusive World Series to Seattle.
