Amy Tryon, Olympian, Retired Firefighter, 1970-2012

Tryon's family asks that remembrances be made to the Humane Society.

Amy Tryon, of Duvall, an Olympic equestrian and retired Eastside firefighter, passed away in her sleep on April 12 at the age of 42. Tryon was a career firefighter at the Pine Lake Fire Station 81 before retiring to pursue her Olympic dreams. She represented the U.S. at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic games. The cause of death is not known.

Following is the obituary from her family, posted on Amy's Website, www.teamtryon.com.

On April 12, 2012, with her beloved Razzle and Jasmine at her side, Amy Tryon the daughter of Jemi and Larry; sister to Kerrie; Aunt to Jayson, Kyle and Lauryn; friend to horse and human alike; and spouse to Greg, passed away.

As we struggle in the loss, we are comforted by the friends, family, supporters and strangers who have taken us under their wings. We ask that all take a moment to reflect on Amy whether that little girl on a pony, that girl on the horse, that woman representing her country in the Olympics, or the woman serving her community as a firefighter. We hope that brings a smile and a bit of comfort as it does us.

Although Amy was intensely shy, her evident joy in the world was brought out in the presence of animals. She was fiercely determined and focused. Nothing was insurmountable or preordained to her. She just wanted to see if she could...

Her family asks that remembrances be made to your local humane society, and that each of us remembers anything is possible if we try.

Amy began her involvement in the Agency when she was hired as a volunteer firefighter serving her community and responding to emergency calls from Pine Lake Fire Station 81 on April 2, 1992.  Two years later, Amy was hired as a career firefighter in 1994, when the area was still under the jurisdiction of King County Fire Protection District 10.  She retired from the Agency in June 2006 to pursue her life-long interest.

Amy was an Olympic equestrian who won the bronze medal in team Eventing at the 2004 Athens Games.  She also represented the U.S. team at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. Amy’s evident joy in the world was brought out in the presence of animals as she aspired to work hard from a very young age and eventually by representing her country.

Eastside Fire & Rescue and Local Union 2878 are working together to support the family during this tough time. Her family asks that remembrances be made to your local humane society in honor of Amy Tryon.  For more information about Amy Tryon you can go to: www.teamtryon.com .
