At the meet, 83 schools and over 1,000 athletes competed, which is the largest in the Northwest and features arguably the best assembly of talent in the state. State leaders in nearly every event were featured, including stars Williams of Skyline, Alec Fellows of Edmonds-Woodway, P.J. Benedictus of Renton amongst others.
Fellows highlighted the field, shattering the meet record in the 110 meter hurdles, albeit unofficially. A clock malfunction prevented his hand-clocked time of 14.10 seconds from being an official record. Fellows also finished sixth in the 200 meter dash.
Williams and Benedictus squared off in the high jump, with each gunning for a height of 7 feet. Both fell short, but drew a large crowd as Williams took the event with a jump of 6 feet 6 inches.
Other highlights included Curtis Clauson of King’s blowing away the field in the javelin throw with a score of 208. The closest competitor checked in at 193 feet.
Justin Bennett of Renton took over the state lead, all classes, in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.68 seconds. Bennett also leads the 2A state in the 200 meters.
