Eastlake Football: Wolves dominate Issaquah 44-17

Eastlake Defense and Special teams rule the day on the Wolves Homecoming night

With the game of the year against neighborhood rival looming next Friday night, it would have been easy for (7-0, 3-0 KingCo Crest) to let down and not take Issaquah (5-2, 2-2) seriously but the Wolves would have none of that as they took down the Eagles 44-17 on Friday night at Eastlake High School.

With the win this marks the first 7-0 start for Eastlake football since the 2005 season.

"The kids can enjoy this one, and now get ready for Skyline," Eastlake Head Coach Gene Dales said.

The Wolves set the tone early on defense as Colton Tregovic ran an interception back 37 yards to give Eastlake a 7-0 lead in the opening quarter.

The Eagles would answer with a 35 yard field goal to cut the lead to 7-3 but then Bryan Cassill ran back the ensuing kickoff to the Issaquah 3 yard line and Ryan Lewis punched in a touchdown on a two yard run to extend the lead to 14-3.

After a field goal right before the half, Teglovic continued his strong performance by returning the second half kickoff 75 yards for his second touchdown of the night and for all intents and purposes put the game out of reach at 31-10 just seven seconds into the third quarter.

Issaquah would answer with a touchdown pass from Ethan Kalin to Derek Chapman from 49 yards out right down the middle of the Wolves defense but in the end thanks to two interceptions a piece from Teglovic and linebacker Sean Macdonald, along with controlling the line of scrimmage, this game was never really in doubt.

Teglovic, while having such a great performance, was quick to show the strong senior leadership that has this team right at the top of the Class 4A rankings by giving credit to his fellow teammates.

"It feels really good," Teglovic said. "It's a great team win."

Coach Dales lauded his team's total team effort in all three phases of the game starting with the offensive leadership of senior quarterback Keegan Kemp who was 7 of 12 for 114 yards passing with one touchdown and added 111 yards on the ground without turning the football over.

"Keegan Kemp did a great job of taking care of the football on offense," Dales said." Colton made some huge plays for us as well."

Dales on the kicking game's success: "We had worked really hard in practice on it."

Moreover Dales knows that this team is showing the special intangibles necessary to make a run at a State Championship.

"Our seniors have been playing together since about 5th or 6th grade," Dales said. "They just have that chemistry and they know they have an opportunity to have a special season."

Eastlake next takes on neighborhood rival Skyline in the Class 4A game of the year at Eastlake High School next Friday night, Oct 21. Kickoff time is 7:00 p.m.
