Eastlake Softball Falls in Little League Softball Western Region Play-Off

Eastlake (Sammamish, WA) Little League's All-Star 11/12 softball team lost its semifinal game to Granada Hills (CA), 4-1, on Thursday night.

Granada Hills Little League's softball all-stars were able to silence Washington State champ Eastlake's bats on Thursday to win 4-1 at the Little League Softball Western Regional semi-final.

With the win, Granada Hills (12-0) advances to play Sunnyside (Tucson, AZ) tonight in the regional championship in San Bernardino, CA and a berth to the Little League Softball World Series in Portland, OR, Aug. 8-14. The single-elimination semi-final ended a fine run for Eastlake (11-2), which lost it's final two games of the tournament. Eastlake narrowly lost to Oregon, 4-2 on Wednesday.

According to the Seattle Times, Granada Hills was able to score first in the first inning without a base hit, then loaded the bases in a crucial third-inning stretch. A would-be Natalie McCarty single was turned into a fielder’s choice as Eastlake center fielder Mackenzie Kurtz’s throw to shortstop Regan Hines forced a runner at second, according to the report, followed by a wild pitch to  give Granada Hills a 3-0 advantage.

Eastlake tried to come back in the fourth, with all-star twins Sophia and Georgia Robinson each walked, and Kurtz singled to drive Sophia Robinson home. According to the Seattle Times, Georgia Robinson attempted to score, but Ashley Murphy’s excellent throw from center field got Georgia Robinson at the plate.
