Eastside Cathlolic's Iwicki Wins 2013 State Wrestling Title

Eastside Cathlolic's Matt Iwicki won a 5-0 decision against Mount Spokane's Kiegen Schauer for the WIAA 3A 120-pound state wrestling title.

Eastside Catholic sophmore Matt Iwicki won the WIAA 3A 120-pound state wrestling championship at the 25th Mat Classic, held at the Tacoma Dome last Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15-16.

Iwicki, who placed third in the 113-pound class last year, did not give up a point in his four matches to take the title, scoring a 16-0 technical fall against Zack Moore of Hazen, an injury default by Avery Meyer of Lincoln, a third round pin over Wil Treadwell of Prairie in the semifinals, and a 5-0 decision in finals versus Mount Spokane’s Kiegen Schauer.

The victory in the championship match brought Iwicki’s season record to 42-2.  His only two losses were to three-time WIAA champion, Josh Newberg of Kelso and two-time IHSAA champion Michael Cook of Kuna, ID, while competing in the 126 pound class at the Tri-State Championships at North Idaho College in December.

We too, love having our Farmers' Market return! Opening day was a bit weather-challenged. ThankRead More you merchants for enduring the wet and cold for our new extended hours! What a wonderful sight will return to the plaza when the sunshine calls back all the families with happy, giggling children. Market day is a date of dinner out (side) & shopping (vegetables, fruits and now HedgeHog Toffee) with my husband. Doesn't get much better than that! SEE YOUR THERE! Susan Gerend
