Issaquah Boys Lacrosse Winless in NW Invitational Tournament

Disappointing losses to Nevada high schools Palo Verde and Henderson over the weekend leave the Eagles with a 2-3 record.

Mikey Giannopulos had two points and 12 ground balls as Issaquah gave up three-fourth-quarter goals to fall to 2012 Nevada state boys high school lacrosse champion Palo Verde 5-4, Saturday at the NW Invitational High School Lacrosse Tournament at Mercer Island High School.

The Eagles had already dropped its NW Invitational opener to Henderson of Nevada 13-9, on Friday, after trailing most of the game.

In Saturday's gaem against Palo Verde, Derek DeYoung and Jake Lindahl both delivered a pair of goals and Brady Hahn had seven saves for Issaquah. Kieran Eissler led Henderson with six.

Issaquah took a narrow 1-0 lead in the first than added two in the second to move-out to a 3-1 lead at the half.

After matching the Panthers single goal in the third, the Eagles were blanked by in the fourth while giving up three as Palo Verde came from behind for the win.

Along with Giannopulos’ goal and an assist, Josh Smith, Jake Lindahl and Matt Thomas all had single goals while goaltender Brady Hahn had 15 saves for Issaquah.

Issaquah (2-3-0) next faces lakeside, Tuesday, March 26 in an 8 p.m. start at Lake Washington High School in Kirkland.

In other NW Invitational action on Saturday involving Washington state high schools Bellevue topped Lincoln (Ore.) 5-0, Skyline bested Portland Jesuit (Ore.) 11-7 and Lake Washington beat Lake Oswego (Ore.) 11-5 while Mercer Island fell to Lakeridge (Ore.) 12-8 and Bainbridge was downed by Claremont (B.C.) 13-8.

Also, Palo Verde (Nev.) topped Sunset (Ore.) 16-6, New Westminster (B.C.) edged Centennial (Nev.) 20-19, Claremont (Nev.) blew past Henderson (Nev.) 20-9, Sunset (Ore.) toppled Centennial (Nev.) 21-15 and Henderson (Nev.) dropped New Westminster (B.C.) 17-10.

The annual NW Invitational Boys High School Lacrosse Tournament on Mercer Island includes over 380 student-athletes representing 16 of the premiere boys high school lacrosse programs from Washington, Oregon, Nevada and British Columbia.  Among the participating schools are the defending state champions from Washington, Oregon and Nevada.
