Issaquah resident Brian Maher, 33, earned a top-10 finish this weekend in the Seattle Rock n' Roll marathon.
Maher finished 10th in the Men's division and 11th overall on the 26.2-mile circuit that wound its way around Seattle and Mercer Island.
Yon Yilma, 24, who grew up in Edmonds, won the full marathon in 2 hours, 29 minutes, 53 seconds and beat out defending champion Teshome Kekobe.
Nuta Olaru, 42, of Boulder, Colo. won the women's full marathon in 2:52.40.
Pat Rizzo of Boulder won the men's half-marathon in 1:05;58.
Nikki Gamble Leith, 29, Edmonds, won the women's half-marathon in 1:25:08.
An estimated 20,000 participants raced in both the half- and full marathon races on Saturday.
Runners started and finished at downtown Seattle Center, beneath the iconic Space Needle, where American Music Award winners Hot Chelle Rae headlined the post race concert, according to race sponsor Competitor Magazine. As participants ran along the peaceful waterfront of Lake Washington, large American flags and photos of fallen U.S. service members created a heartfelt and emotional tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
The memorial was part of a water station from wear blue: run to remember, a military support group from Joint Base Lewis McChord. More than 200 members of wear blue participated in the race, inspiring runners and spectators alike.
