Lacrosse: Eastside Catholic, Eastlake Students Named State Players of the Week

Eastside Catholic senior Michael Rambaldini and Eastlake junior Marlena Masterleo take home the US Lacrosse Washington High School Player of the Week Awards.

 senior Michael Ramaldini and  junior Marlena Masterleo have been named US Lacrosse Washington High School Players of the Week.

Rambaldini took home the Boys Division I award while Masterleo was pegged as the Girls Division II winner.

Rambaldini picked up the award after scoring 12 points, including 11 goals and 1 assist in the Crusaders’ Division I lacrosse wins over Lynnwood High School and . The 5-11, 150 pound senior from Mercer Island scored 6 goals in Eastside Catholic’s 21 – 4 defeat over Lynnwood, last year’s Division II state champion, and two days later, netted 5 goals as the Crusaders defeated Sammamish rival Skyline 22 – 19. During the week, his combined 15 ground balls, powered the potent Crusader offense, which racked up a total of 43 goals.
 
Rambaldini has four years high school lacrosse experience and was elected captain of the Eastside Catholic squad as a junior and senior. A highly versatile athlete, Rambaldini was named captain of the Crusaders’ basketball squad as a senior and captain of the Junior Varsity squad as a sophomore. As a junior and senior he was named to the school’s scholar athlete award for both lacrosse and basketball.
 
In the classroom, the three-year National Honor Society selectee maintains a 3.82 GPA through a rigorous schedule of advanced placement and honors course work. Through hard work and dedication in the classroom, he received the school’s Academic  First Honors from 2008-11, was named to the school’s Basketball Scholar Athlete Award as a junior and senior and received Student of the Month honors as a freshman and junior. His on-campus achievements include serving as DECA vice president as a junior, Eastside Catholic Mentor Representative as a sophomore and junior, Freshman Overnight Retreat leader and Destiny Retreat Leader, both as a senior. He is also a member of the school’s Crusader Life Club and Fishing Club.
 
In the community, Rambaldini has completed over 150 hours of community service including work with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation where he helped raise over $50,000. Following graduation, Rambaldini plans to study at either one of The Claremont Colleges in California or the University of Washington.
 
Eastlake High School junior Marlena Masterleo scored 8 points including 7 goals and an assist in Lake Sammamish wins over North Kitsap and Lake Tapps. Along with goals in the net, the midfielder grabbed 2 ground balls and commandeered 7 draws to set the table for an offense that outscored its opponents 34 – 9 during the week.  
 
A lacrosse athlete since the sixth grade, Masterleo is passionate about passing her skills and good sportsmanship to the next generation of high school lacrosse players, coaching a newly-formed second grade Eastside girls team and refereeing youth lacrosse games.
 
Along with lacrosse, she is a decorated track and field athlete, cross country runner and even competed on the boys wrestling team as a freshman. As the anchor on Eastlake’s  4 X 400 meter relay team, she won the Lake Washington district championship her freshman year and her cross country team won the Lake Washington district championship in her freshman, sophomore, and junior years. As a sophomore, she was invited to the Nike Cross County Pre-Nationals in Boise, Idaho. 
 
In her brief wrestling career, Masterleo grappled at the 110 lb. weight class, finishing the season 2-8-0 and earning a trip to the Lake Washington district championships. 
 
In the classroom, Masterleo maintains a 3.20 GPA at Eastlake and is involved in both DECA and Key Club. In the community, Masterleo was selected to a Teens in Public Service Internship during the summer of her sophomore year. Along with completing the program’s volunteer service at the Seattle Ronald McDonald House, Masterleo spent her 16th birthday hosting a dinner for families at the Seattle facility. Her work also includes service with the Teens in Public Service alumni and internship selection committees. For her work, she was recently featured in Parent Map Magazine.
